I Like Tip Down Carry As Well. It Makes It Easier. Because I just Grab The Knife, And Flip It Open Instead Of Having To Mess Around With It.

I guess nobody saw the part about what they see most hanging from other people's jeans. I'll make a poll for that later. :grumpy: :p

Tip up keeps the bulk weight of the knife lower in the pocket reducing the chance of knife loss due to it working it's way out of your pocket.

Just my .02¢ but I think a knife blade should be adjusted with enough tension/tightness so as not to be able to open in the pocket.

I prefer tip up after doing some martial arts training with a tip down folder. The knife was stopped rapidly, and the clip was jammed into my pinky, cutting it on the distal phalax. Hurt like hell, and afterwards I rethought my choice, as before I preferred tip down. I don't carry for self defense, so that isn't a big deal, but is a liability in any rushed/forced situation. Another reason I like tip up is that the blade sits between the handle and the edge of my pocket, so that in 17 years of carrying clipped folders I've never had one open in my pocket- AO or not. Plus the tip up is the only configuration that works with wave or poor mans wave.

God intends for you to carry tip-up, if carried in the strong side pocket. This places the thumb on the Spydie hole or thumb stud so that the knife does not have to be flipped around after extraction.

I don't know why people assume that you have to draw a tip up the same as the tip down. For me, tip up entails reaching my thumb into my pocket and lifting it out so that my thumb is pointing down. I do not use the same for tip down. For that I approach the pocket from slightly underneath, using the clip with my fingers and sliding my thumb parallel to the pocket I lift the knife out with my thumb up and my hand is in proper position to open it without manipulating the knife much. Both methods have the knife ready to open with little manipulation. Just with the thumb up or down upon fast opening.

I'm a leftie, so many tip down folders become tip-up for me, as long as they have an ambi opening system. If I can change it, I usually do so for tip down, but that is usually not the case. Lefties learn to roll...twice, and fast!

I bought my first spyderco (looking for my next knife at this second now :/ ) and its a tip up only carry which at first i was worried about but now i realize i love it! (ps anyone know where i can post a "next buy" knife question? new here)

Rok, just post a new thread here in General saying that you need a recommendation and that you're new. Welcome to Bladeforums, by the way! Did you/ your friends who carried knives all carry tip-down because that's how folders came?

thanks for the warm welcome kng! and actually it was because before i was kind of fearful of reaching into my pocket and having a blade open on me and slice me (cheap blades you know :X ) i'll be sure to get on the question asking!

Tip up for me. I can put my finger on the thumb stud as I'm drawing out of my pocket.

If you're carrying "Tip Up" properly that should be impossible. The blade should be between the handle and the seam of your pocket. There should be no way that knife can open unless it is pulled from your pocket. If you have it tip up with the blade facing the zipper of your fly, then you're doing it "wrong".

I am also in the minority, carrying tip down. For me it is faster as I don't reach my whole hand into my pocket, just grab the top of the knife with my index and thumb. The only knives I would carry tip up would be waved, the reason for that being obvious.

Tip up keeps the bulk weight of the knife lower in the pocket reducing the chance of knife loss due to it working it's way out of your pocket.

Lol this sounds like a stretch to me :D

I know there have been threads about this in the past, but I just wanted to know how BFC people carry their knives.

Do most people who you see carry theirs Tip-Down because that's the way their knife comes / no way to change it? (I'm referring to random people you see with pocket clips)

So which are you asking about, how I carry or how I see others carry?

In a perfect world all knives would be tip-up with a CRK style clip that holds on the pocket seam. :)

Glad I don't live in that "perfect world". It sounds limited and boring.

Yeah, right. I think you need therapy. Have you ever heard of the concept of free will?

Tip-down for me. Guess I am in a minority. :o

We may be in the minority, but we have some good company. Massad Ayoob designed his Spyderco collaboration knife tip-down only, and it stayed that way for the recent Sprint Run.

As for what I see on other people's pockets, most of those clips appear to be non-removable on cheap knives that I wouldn't carry on a bet.

99% of the time you can carry however you want to (that includes getting some pocket clip holes tapped). And if people didn't care, they can choose whichever of the three they like. I'd really like this poll to remain as simple as possible.

If people don't care, They're not gonna choose one or the other. If you add "don't care" you actually get a better idea of who likes what. I personally don't care, but if I choose one of your options just to do the poll, it's gonna skew your data. 'course, if you're just doing it for pure fun, I guess it don't matter. :D
