Tipping point between user and safe queen

Oddly enough, my truly unused safe queens happen to be some of the least expensive knives I own. Two in particular were gifted to me and they are more sentimental than anything. I have a lot of knives I don't use because I have way more than I need, and these two are all together with the rest of the collection. Whereas I would use any of them given the opportunity, the two I'm thinking of simply have their own place of honor.

I feel that way about Rough Ryder slip joints (some of them). I just like them. I have too many knives to use from a practical point of view unless I just force the use. The first RR's were purchased just to see what they were all about and why people felt them such an exceptional value. Later, I just pick one up when it catches my eye as the cost allows for rather impulsive purchases at the big East Tennessee knife store and that's fun. I try to visit the RR counter every time I visit. To temper the impulses, I just visit a couple times a year. I tend to choose middle of the road stuff to use overall.

This may or may not apply.

I attempted to sell my mint Busse SOB last month. I tried to get what I paid for it. No bites. So I dropped the price to $30 less than I paid. No bites. So I withdrew it from the Exchange and proceeded to take it down our redwood canyon, whittled a pointy stick and hack the $#!+ out of some branches.

Of my ~35 knives, 3 were safe queens. Now 2. And I'd use them if I saw fit. I recently bought a like new zt0470 and a zt0452, my first zt's. I've used the 452 (so now a keeper) but the 470 remains new since I may try to sell it.

I don't safe Queen but have many custom that just sit, maybe they SHOULD be in a safe but they're just in a display collecting dust until I grab, fidget and clean and put back. My favorite, probably a Diskin Revolution is mirrored DLC and that gets carry. Deadlock is carried weekly and used almost hard. Suppose I can call remorse purchases safe queen's as they sit until sold, but they stay in same display

Tipping Point: Boredom. If I tire of carrying the designated group of EDC's I now simply reach into the safe and pull out something that previously had been "untouchable" carry-wise. I suspect it may have something to do with coming to grips with my mortality. I mean, you can't take this shit with you!

I dont have safe queens, my problem is I buy a lot of knives and end up using the newest one the most, so more and more are getting behind, now I’m waiting for my Fischer Launch, Skiff Accomplice, Skiff Culprit, so My drawers are getting full, but I love them all
I get what you mean. My trick to “avoid safe queens” is rotating my EDC knives and if I come across something that needs a sharp pointy object, I gotta use what’s in my pocket. Whether that’s the Izula or the Manix 2.
