These axe-like objects are the final pair of test & trial axes for the Mad Science Forge titanium hatchet project, and are available!
The big one is 43" oal, at a weight of 4.5 lbs spread throughout its large frame. The medium one is 23" oal at 2.3 lbs
Both have a welded bit of titanium-niobium sword alloy, forged and heat-treated, on a body of grade 38 armor plate ti at about 1/4" thick. Both also have a convex grind. Handles are rubber bound in nylon, with leather wrap, and welded titanium alloy buttcap. Finish is low grit.
The weld between the body and cutting bit of the axes are clearly visible, and look like a hamon.
The big one has a laser mark "prototype" that was applied at Blade Show West by the guys with the fancy laser machine, and is partially double-stamped. Many people saw these and hefted them at the show, and remarked on how light they felt.
Both of these things are quite sharp and very effective.
During testing, the big axe was easily able to fell medium sized alder trees even with my tepid, unsure cuts, and can sever a sapling or small tree in one cut, yet is sharp and keen enough to cut grass stalks.
The smaller one has a light bison hide mask made by Ms. Oye.
- Prices -
Medium axe: SOLD
Big axe: Temporarily withdrawn to make a Youtube video
Paypal: KLSAMEE@yahoo.com
*There has been some confusion on how much a "large" is, so for clarification, 1 large = 10 Benjamins Franklin.
Thanks for looking, everyone.
