Titanium and S30V...........chopsticks??

I was a little unsure of which forum to post this in, so I decided on this one, since it's a request for custom pieces.

I want to have several sets of Titanium, and S30V chopsticks made.

After some googling, I stumbled upon the titanium chopsticks made by Alan Folts, who happens to be a poster on the Ars Technica forum that I'm a regular on. I didn't like his design, so I passed on them.

I contacted Peter of Atwood Knife & Tool, maker of the Prybaby and other goodies to see if he would be interested in making some, but he declined as well. I've emailed Tom Anderson, another custom knife maker, but he hasn't responded yet.

I was wondering if anyone here would like to take a crack at this. I know of a few other people that'd go nuts for a couple pairs of titanium, or S30V chopsticks as well.

So...any takers, or am I posting this in the wrong forum? :D

Check out the Green forum. It seems like Eric Blair makes "Toxic Chopsticks" that may be to your liking.

I have a set from J.P Holmes.
He is a Sushi dude so he knows a bit about them.
His user name on Bladeforums is jphknives.
Good maker

Fantastic!

Does anyone else have any suggestions in case he's not free to make them? I have a serious itch for a few sets of these and the only cure is titanium chopsticks. :D

Well...he's turned me down as well.

Anyone else have suggestions of a custom knife maker to go to? No one's interested. :(

Those were some of the first ones I found, actually.

However, I'm looking for something with either no anodizing or patterned styling, and just either plain bead-blast finish or black type 3 hard anodized.

No luck so far, and no custom manufacturers I've emailed (five of them, now) are interested in making any. Looks like I'm out of luck.

you could just buy some and bead blast them. and the type III anodize is for aluminum not titanium.

Well then...that narrows it down. X_x

Unfortunately, nothing I've found is what I want, nor has anyone been interested in making any. Weird. I'd hoped that custom eating utensils would be a hotter topic. :p

Hope I'm not bumping this too late...

Here's a few quick renders I did in Softimage|XSI to illustrate what I'm looking for in my design, and what I'd like machined. Please note that I specifically wanted the octagonal geometric look, versus the smooth, rounded style of most chopsticks.

Maybe these will spark someone's interest.

Cool looking design but man that looks like it'd be really hard to make. I doubt if anything less than a computer guided machine could accomplish that.

for less than 100 sets, I would say you are probably looking at $300.00 set of chopsticks.

For 1000 sets, you would probably be looking at $30.00, set.

Talk to Darryl Ralph, RJ Martin or Tom Anderson, but my feeling is that the answer will be no.

The time that it takes to work on this project has to be offset by the profits involved. What you are asking for on a small scale is not practical.

Here's a design that'd be simpler to mill or lathe.

Ignore any hard edges and pretend they're round, except for the slotted nut part on the back. :P

Look for ultralight hiking suppliers. I had a pair of titanium chopsticks a while back. Your best bet may be modifying an existing set of stock chopsticks.

For those renderings, you had better bring your checkbook also.
Thought you wanted chopsticks.

Like I said, Tom Anderson, Darryl Ralph, even maybe Rick Hinderer are your best bets.

For that $$ they MIGHT be tempted, anything less, I seriously doubt it.
