TK cover knife... really?

There were definitely some good articles, the Boker, Helle, and I guess technically the Cold Steel were not tactical knives per se. I personally find the absence of Len McDougal to be tangible, and Mistwalker aren't you Brian Griffin? Aka my other favourite author in tk, I have a subscription and will continue reading to, I just hope the pendulum swings back towards outdoor stuff and away from these last few issues that felt soldier of fortune more than tk.

I was starting to think pics of this knife didn't exist.

I kind of like it. I had one of those cheapie imported ones when I was a kid. I hate to admit it, but it is striking a chord with me. Of course, this would probably wind up just being a toy anyway. Too bad there is no compass glued into the cap. ;)

Before I REALLY got into knives and came to realize just how handy/necessary it is to always carry a folder I bought one of the $100 Rambo knives similar in style to the Boker. I beat around on that knife and ended up breaking it (at the joint) during a camping trip SO if there is now one that is far better made I for one wouldn't at all mind trying it out. I "need" another fixed blade like I need yet another hole in my head but I bet it would be fun to put it through its paces and see how it holds up. I don't own ANY Boker's but I have noticed that they've teamed up with several interesting knife makers to bring their designs to market at reasonable prices.

Awesome! I look forward to your review and pics. I keep looking at the pics of it myself and really am starting to want it!

There are several aspects of the knife I like, and it has my curiosity up.

I think many of us miss Len's survival column. Yes, that would be me, thank you very much, I'm really glad you enjoy the articles. Pendulum is a good analogy, and they always swing.

Forgive my ignorance, but what happened to Len Mcdougal? I really enjoyed his writing...

When was the last time you saw a negative article about a knife in a knife magazine? Makes you wonder why huh? ;)

In fact, how many magazines have you ever read ANY negative reviews on products? Years ago I got into metal detecting and tried to research the best metal detector by reading reviews in magazines. Guess what? Every single metal detector ever made has raving reviews from magazines...right next to an add for that metal detector! Who would have guessed? The same is true for outdoor gear and guns! Great reviews and there'll generally be a manufacturers add within the next page.

This is the biggest reason I don't subscribe to magazines that do so called "reviews".

Well, it shouldn't be too long now just need to get it out in the field a while. If it holds up as good as it looks and feels I'm going to be perfectly happy with it. Just going by feel and fit and finish they seem to being doing the design justice.

Awesome!! :D I've been eyeing this one myself, I can't decide between this or spring for the legit handmade apparo :)

I've heard a lot of good things about Martin Knives, if I could have afforded it I would have sprung for the real deal...but I would have wanted the CPM S35VN for my uses over the 5160, and there was just no way I could swing that right now. I have one of Boker VOX Knives designed Rold knives and they did a heck of of job on that design, and their reproduction of the WW II M3- Trench Knife has done really well too. So, I have good expectations of this one. I don't know the specs of the tang, but it extends more than an inch into the handle. I'm going to play with it some tomorrow if I have time.

Hey Mist, that is a cool shot of it! Quick question, is the clip sharpened?

Looking forward to your review Brian...I own a couple of Martin knives but not their hollow-handle versions, just their smaller utilitarian blades (BT and SERE T3b). I can say they make some very good working blades. I was drawn to their hollow handle designs out of my childhood curiosity and they did seem to do it right. My son has claimed my old Buckmaster survival knife and I always lusted after a Randall #18 which I ran across a few in South America in the hands of some ODA team members. My premier hollow-handle knife is my Chris Reeves Project 1…single piece construction and quite stout.

TK is what it is. It's an enjoyable read, great photography and a good way to showcase new models/designs. If I want to read numerous reviews to form an opinion, I get on Bladeforums:D; there are several knife users that give honest testing and excellent reviews.

Hopefully the Boker is a success if they're using Martin's construction design. These types of blades are part of the American knife culture; even if they don't appeal to the traditionalists or the majority of hunters and outdoorsmen, it's good to see them pop up as long as they are strong enough for real use. There are many knife designs that don't (or no longer) appeal to me but I still can appreciate the art, design and even niche function regardless of my personal preferences.

Get busy Brian!

Excellent! My "buy button" finger has been twitching for this one. Can't find it in stock right now, but I am pretty sure I will grab one when available. The design takes me back to my younger Rambo obsessed days, which isn't such a bad thing :D

I know what you mean. If I had known more about what was out there (pre-internet) back in the early 80s and had spent the money on a Randall 18 rather than a cheap Explorer copy of the Rambo knife....I would have stayed in the southern swamps a lot longer. I was feeling pretty comfortable with the idea of going native when I snapped the blade at the handle with not a lot of lateral force. Though revisiting those same swamps last summer I learned am not will to try to live there at this point :) Man was it HOT!!

So mistwalker how well do the saw teeth work? Or are you going to make me wait for the full review.

Mist-I'm sure you will do a good review on it. Should have told me you were interested, I have one of those laying around.

Hey Reuben, shoot me an email if you might be interested in getting rid of it. Thanks!
