To 110, or not to 110, that is the question...

It’s not about if. It’s about how many.

Also, I found the aluminum frame 110’s really deal with the weight issue very well. I enjoy carrying mine when I do. I also like the LT, but the aluminum frame is probably my favorites next to the real ebony

Why should you keep them? My question is why did you buy them only to ask why you should keep them?

pholder, I bought them...because I could :). The two DLT exclusives were my first Buck purchases. I had never before had a sheathed pocket knife on my belt before this, and just think I am more inclined to the 112 size.

I am MUCH more comfortable with my 112's and even more so with my Vantages. I prefer pocket carry to sheath carry, pistol and extra magazine on my belt...why should I keep my 110's?

My 110s currently ride in a pocket slip with a pocket clip that keeps it upright. This gives the ability to carry them as though they had pocket clips (which I don't prefer). The LT, aluminum frame from C&C, basic brass, and even the automatic all ride perfectly this way. And other traditionals such as the Mercator, Opinel N°9 and N°10, and even a SOG Paratool make use of the same slip.

As for why the 110, I like the longer blade. I can get by with tiny knives, of course, but I guess I just identify with it. I can get by with sneakers for most of my work, too, but I wear boots. Knife choice is really about your gut and your self image as much as it is about practical need.

Enjoy the hobby, whatever you chose!

just some thoughts
In the sheath the 3/4" length difference doesnt matter
I've used/carried 3.5 to 4" blades forever. I never thought "This is too big"
In the pocket I've found thinner is better. They all wore holes in pockets and the clips wear out the top of the pockets.

I agree with the feeling, but I'd keep at least one of them, probably just plain jane in ebony. Sometimes it's nice to go back to the basics occasionally.

I'll throw in another comment really quick. This is something I'm doing right now. I bought a plain 110 a month ago, and although it's not my absolute favorite I decided to challenge myself have it be my only edc for a month. It's grown on me quite a lot now, still feels a little large, but not that heavy anymore. An added benefit is now every knife feels like a lightweight! :D So that's my suggestion, before you do anything give yourself a month of only carrying a 110, at worse you have a renewed appreciation for other knives, at best you discover you do like the 110.

this is so true :-)
its pretty funny thinking about weighty brass classics.
when zytel folding knives came about
many scoffed at its light weight.
oldtimers had a tough time
getting used to the idea.
the one thing brass folders had was
heft which gave a "balanced feel" to
a knife in hand during actual use.
something lacking in plastic folders.
well, not only plastic but alloy too.
period folks from the old skool of thought
would have been in complete and utter
shock to pick up the likes of a microtech ;
and see such a hefty price tag
(in comparison to a 110)
which made no sense spending on
for something that light and "flimsy" :-)

Hmmm....just may have to give this a try.

With as crazy and foolish as the world is becoming, I like gathering 110's as a legacy for my family as they may not always be around. Who would have thought of an America without muscle cars? Here we are. 110's keep me mindful of my roots, who I am, where I come from, what America can produce when at its best.

My two American made 110 sheaths are my Sunday go to meeting sheaths. Those are scarce now. We no longer have Firebirds, GTO's or 442's might wake up one morning no more 110's, God forbid.

I have a varied assortment of 110s in standard, auto, slim and LT. With all the selections of materials and blades now a days it’s hard to not find a good one to fit the need. The extra blade length is so nice when you need it. I have a few 112s that I use at times but they don’t get the work time that the 110s get. My biggest hindrance anymore is with belt carry. I wear suspenders because a belt irritates my sciatic nerve so I’m trying to find a sheath with a clip that I can clip to my suspenders or the waste band of my jeans. The ones I’ve found so far are very pricey so I’ll probably make one.

I prefer a belt, and like sheath on belt with my 110..... but I also suffer from that issue. chiropractor has made a huge difference for me. I went not believing in it at all. yep I'm a skeptic, but I was in so much pain and numb outside of my foot and massive leg pain when sitting and standing and laying I couldn't take it.

my neurologist recommended it and my wife made me go. now much better. wasnt first time but half dozen or so visits. mine does stretching and pressure point stuff I call it and wow it works. I dislike the neck and back cracking stuff and don't let him do that. foot isn't numb anymore pain is gone. maybe it healed on its own who knows, but I sure felt it helped. maybe just tricked me into feeling better, what do I know.

theres a delivery guy that wears a belt and suspenders and his pants are always falling off basically. we chuckle at work that he's got both and still can't keep his pants up to cover his rear or his shirt tucked in.:D he dont seem to care.

Yes I prefer a belt myself. Last year I went to the chiropractor and it did help for about six months but then it came back with a vengeance. I had an mri done last February and Was diagnosed with osteoarthritis and buldged disc from L1-L5 and S1. I had a neurologist apt to get things started but Covid threw that all out of kilter. Now in December my dr says they have some people coming that has a new treatment that is much better and less invasive. Hopefully it will work out and covid can go away. Anyhow thanks for the advice.

A lot of great info/opinions here, many thanks. I going to try TheJon's suggestion, and carry a 110 for a month whenever I'm wearing a belt, and see how that works out. I may try a new 102 or 212 for a day or two in there also...

Be careful out there, a Buck 110 Hunter riding in a sheath on your waist is known to drive women wild. It is a sexy thang!
