To a knife-nut, happiness is...

Happiness is pondering whether to use your $400 OTF or your $20 SAK to cut your sandwich.

Thanks NJBillK and Timberweasel, you just cost me $100. Now happiness is waiting for my Chambriard compact amourette. :D

Happiness is checking on the delivery confirmation number, seeing it is "out for delivery", then leaving work early and beating them home, then waiting for the sound of that big brown truck (or little white jeep) to stop in front of your door, and restraining yourself from running out to meet him, THEN, signing on the little e-pad with their stylus, giving the guy a great big Thank You! and slamming the door. Now, you can open the box!

Lol yup:thumbup:
Just reading that got my heart rate up a bit!

I can't take credit, Daizee and Timberweasel knew what it was... They are even going to cost me money. Now to look up the trapper lock version, I love the scroll work on it.

Keep us posted.

That combination of pride and embarrassment when you have to ask your wife, "Honey, where are the band-aids?"

I just got my first GEC knife. It's a Northfield UN-X-LD #53. The blades are centered and there is no play. However, they are extremely stiff and difficult to open. Will this break in over time or is it just part of its build?

Beautiful knives, guys... I think you'll be pleased. I highly recommend the juniper if you can get it; it's a very spicy/fragrant wood with a gorgeous grain. The amourette is also a good choice. Come to think of it, they are all good choices... I've never seen an ugly Chambriard! :)

GECs can be nail-breakers, especially the older models. They might loosen up a little over time with use, but you can also try to let the knife sit with the blades partially open for a few days. Just make sure there's tension on the backspring if your #53 has a half-stop. Might help a bit. If not, give Great Eastern a call and maybe they can tune it for you. Beautiful knife, though! Very knice! :)

Thanks for the advice. I'll let them sit partially open and go from there.

Getting an email notification that the out of stock limited edition model you requested is now in stock. Then being quick enough to order it before it's gone again.
