To All You DIY Cats: THANKS! w/pics!

Nice job! I'm a sucker for the scotch-brite finish, and I like how the grooves make a nice contrast. Are you going to do the lock side now, too? :D

Thanks! For the first time taking down and putting back the Umnumzaan, it took surprisingly little time!

For now I think i'll leave the lockbar side as is. I dig the contrast, I did do the pocket clip though!

I think there are a couple Sebenzas that will be getting the treatment this evening too:D

Wow, your Mighty Zaan turned out fantastic ~ Nice Job RR84, not only did it turn out great, but it obviously gets the creativity wheels turning too.;).

Given the immediately model identity of the Zaan due to its unique scale pattern (and the bad-to-the-bone blade profile); I think the Zaan is the one knife in the CRK line-up that would benefit greatly from different finish options, especially since the Zaan's scales aren't really receptive to inlays, at least not without significantly altering its popular scale pattern.

Finish options would be spectacular. Black, od Green, Desert Tan, etc...Both scales in the same finish would create a very pleasing mono-tone appearance, yet finishing only the non-lock scale in a different color would create an even more dramatic appearance; and, on some level, it would compete with the likes of Strider, Hinderer, & ZT. Not that CRK needs to compete directly with those areas of the market, but hey, why not, especially if it could be cost effective.

I couldn't help myself:D

US-STEEL, I like your train of thought!

Looks great James!

Leaving the crosshatch and lockbar blasted makes for a pretty sweet contrast!

Thank you sir! It's hard to explain, but it looks better in person. The CR on the lockstop is much crisper now. The knife feels like a UG in hand and less gritty which I dig a bit.

I'm crazy about this knife!

I especially like how the lock bar insert looks with it two tone like that.

Very nicely done. Looks great!! Now that knife is totally Yours. Congrats on a fine job.

Thank you bub! It was nice to get the first disassembly out of the way. Nothing like getting to know your knife better. Now that I've personalized it so to speak, it's never leaving my side(knock on wood)

I like it aswell. I believe your Umnumzaan was the seed planted deeply awhile back, so thank you!

Very Very Very nice job.
I like it and think it would look great on the Sebenza, but I'm not ready to tackle the disassembling and reassembling process again yet, and I don't think I'm brave enough to void the warranty.

The nife looks amazing!:eek::thumbup:
Looks even better with both sides done.
Great job:)

Thank you! I'm glad I went ahead and did the lockbar side.

I thought so too so I tried it on one. Stands out more on the Zaan, but I still dig it. Don't be afraid to take down your Seb again. Mistakes happen and they don't always go back together on the first attempt. No worries:thumbup:

That Looks Fantastic!!! Great job!!!! Regarding the warranty, I'm surprised that CRK won't honor the warranty if you scotch brite. What's the harm? Well, I'm glad to know so that if I ever have a warranty issue I'll be sure to have my handles bead blasted locally before sending in my knife. Having owned my Seb for 6 months and having taken in apart and put it back together about 30 times I can't imagine any problem that would be covered by the warranty. If I send my handles to CRK to get reblasted are they going to say no because I stonewashed them?

Knowingly voiding the warranty by altering the finish then attempting to cover it up by altering the finish again?

That is some shady stuff.

A person can do whatever they want to their property, but if you want to maintain warranty and your integrity, better keep the knife stock.

Can anyone provide proof that scotchbrighting voids the warranty? I have not seen anything in regards to this and I was not aware...was considering doing it to a few knives but not if it voids the warranty.

I think if a knife has been altered it would be unfair to have them fix it for free should a problem arise. If anything were to happen to either of the knives I've scotchbrited and a trip to Idaho were in order, I'd expect a bill for repairs and I'd have no issue paying it.

I would not advise any form of deception in attempt to have free repairs, replacement parts, etc.

I agree, but if you are paying for the SPA which includes sand blasting which is all it takes to return the knife to its original state, why void the warranty.

I guess a better question is does it void the whole warranty or just warranty on the handles?

And lastly, no one should be trying to pull the wool over CRKs eyes and reblast the handles if you choose to tinker with them. If it does in fact void the warranty and then you try to cover your trail, I will laugh when they find out and refuse to service the knife at all. CRK does a great job of taking care of their customers and thus you should follow their policies.
