I'm sure some situations are taken on a case by case basis, some are under the voided warranty blanket.

If a product has been altered, it should be assumed the warranty no longer covers the product.

Scotchbriting doesn't effect the lockface, nor the washers, nor the bushings, pivot, etc. so I can understand why some would have difficulty understanding why it would void the warranty, however, it is an alteration none the less.

If your going to do something like this, just know if something happens to your knife and you need it fixed, you'll have to pay for it.

On a related note, every CRK I've owned has been spot on, so I'm not exactly worried about having to use the warranty anyway:thumbup:
