To Buy Blem or Not?

For the rare, limited sprint runs, get both. Use the blem and put the minty fresh one in the safe.

I concur, though I seem to use all of mine
Maybe one day I'll put one back. If I end up getting a 0888, it will be safed by the bell.

Blems are sold at the annual factory sale. Big places such as bladehq and the others do not sell blems. Kershaw guy is the only dealer I am aware of that sells them because he actually goes to the sale. Other people on ebay and such with ebay stores buy a few there and sell them online through their ebay stores but thats about it. Only way to tell is the 4 X's (XXXX) and they do not come with boxes or paperwork from the factory.

So aside from Kershawguy (who doesn't sell/ship outside of the USA) and a few guys on ebay, there's no way to get a Blem if you are living in Europe?

I bought a blem 0350 from kershawguy and absolutely love it. I couldn't see anything wrong with it. It's a user so I don't care about the fact it is marked a blem. For the price, you can't beat it.

Thanks for the thread and opinions. But I've got a different angle. Besides sharpening services, if you needed a real repair - new parts - are you likely to be able to get satisfaction? If not, then is warranty all its cracked up to be? (I ask this because my foray into KAI-land was picking up a Storm from a tsa confiscation store (sigh) for $10. When I took it apart and asked a question, KAI told me they didn't have replacement parts, so that made me wonder. Steer me right here, I'm really a newbie...

Due to the fact you can't make the 0300 a manual knife, I'd pick the 0350

You can make a 300 a manual knife. You would just either want to have the pivot tightened a small amount or add a detent. But it isnt impossible.

When was this? Storm has been discontinued for a while now (someone correct me if I'm wrong). In which case, if you send it in and they can't repair it, they'll give you the option of having the knife returned as is (if it has sentimental value or something) or they'll give you a credit towards a new knife.

In my opinion, if you're going to be using it as a knife should be used, you'll want the warranty, just in case. If you want something to modify or just really beat on/abuse, get a blem; cause either of those things will void the warranty anyway.

This was in December 2012. Yes, discontinued. I was able to find a pair of nib last month? One for my son and one for me, I liked it so much. Anyway, that's what they said. The used one has a scratch on the blade which I wondered if any way to remove. Will have to post it and a photo to another thread for advice. As you say, I wouldn't necessarily have wanted to lose it. So, who on here has had warranty repair of a discontinued knife?

I've had four blems, never had any issues with them. With that thick slab of titanum and ZT's level of fit and finish you shouldn't have any issues

Is the scratch purely cosmetic? If yes then for used $10 knife just throw it in your pocket and use it, it is a knife after all.

I have several blems including an 0200, which I love. Awesome knife. I have no problems with any of them. I actually prefer them if it's going to be a user.

If I am getting something to have major modification done,or use heavily, I will get a blem as the warranty no longer applies. If I want to keep it stock, I will get non blem.

I'd say if you were going to use it, get a blem, if you are going to safe it, get a new one.

Agreed. For a user or a keeper, the blem factor shouldn't matter. If you think you are likely to sell it, get non-blem.

It's funny to read this thread since I got a phone call yesterday morning from a pal in San Antonio, asking me where to get the very best deal on a ZT350.I told him right off to order a blem from > Website www.kershawguy.com

I still wouldn't trust it without a detent. It's a big blade, and a slightly tightened pivot isn't trustworthy IMHO. And adding a detent is hard than removing the assist of a 0350

Anybody any idea where I can get a ZT Blem (aside from Kershawguy)?

Edit:
I should mention that I'm looking for a dealer who is willing to ship to Germany.
