To choil or not choil??? That is the Question... MSe LE NEW UPDATES

Get a puukko. No wasted space.

It's not the lack of a choil that separates the working area from the first finger; it's the thick guards (or ricassos).

Actually looking at that active duty photo it is both the unusable choil and talon hole in almost equal measures.

The puukko is a kind of an extreme example, but I have lots of knifes the same overall length as the AD, but with a lot more usable blade, and most of these also have reasonable contouring and index finger protection without the wasted space.

This is exactly what I was wanting!!! Great pic and great minds think alot!!! I am trying it with a BG MSe, my LE MSe will be next!!!!

Thank you for sharing the pic!!!

I love choils and had the same thought. Here's an example of what I want to do to my MSe:

Thanks Cobalt for the great pic and photoshop :)

That mod, but with the exposed pommel ground off to improve the blade to handle ratio would be pretty awesome.

Oh, that sounds nice, depending on how one prefers the balance on a small knife. Or if you dont care about the rear talon hole for a lanyard.

You could cut the butt off without cutting the talon hole out

A well made handle obviates the need for any choking up onto the blade. Why would I want to hold a thin piece of steel when I could hold the handle? I won't buy a knife with a wide ricasso so a "finger choil" is unnecessary. Choils of any size don't make sense to me (sacrifice blade length so you can sharpen the whole edge?) but that's another rant. No choils for me.

can't argue much with that, but one point of difference I've found is that it's easier to feel feedback in some cases thru the choil than the handle, at least it seems that way to me, YMMV.

this !

Thanks guys! Yeah, I love the knife the way it is but I think it will feel nice and function well with a choil. It also might look good with some mods to the pommel, I'll have to toy around with it in photoshop. I'll post something if I get a chance to monkey around with it anymore.

Here's a version with the butt removed and I also opened up the choil a little bit more to make it functional for all you choil lovers out there ;).

depends on the blade but i like to be able to choke up on longer blades especially if hunting.

So... I am sending away a BG MSe to have a choil put in and if I like it I will have one put into my MSeLE as well. I really like choils but I see a lot of people do not care for them, and prefer baldes without them.

So to everyone who does not like choils, what is your reason and why?

Is there some advantage that I'm unaware of to which the extra 1/4, or 1/2 inch of blade does that out weighs the advanced ergonomics of the choil?

Please be sure to post pics when you get it back. I'm so close to digging into mine

I think I should have the knife back towards the end of the week. I will post pics when I have a chance :) I am really looking forward to it!!!

I got the MSe Back!!! I really like it!!! Josh at Razor Edge did a great job!!! Now I just need to get the MSe LE done!
