To Open Or Not To Open, That Is The Question

I recently purchased this and now I'm torn. The collector in me says "leave it alone and keep it mint" while the kid in me says "open the package now and flip the knife open every chance you get." Both options make me happy to own it and I haven't seen another show up in a while. I know boxed versions exist, but historically speaking how long should I expect to wait for one that I can literally get my hands on? I know it's not an ultra expensive knife, but mint is mint when it comes to condition, you know? Damn you, internal conflict! :D

Open it and get your money's worth.

It's a $30 knife, and a damn fine one.

There are certain things in life that I really don't understand as why people would want to keep in unopened condition.

Knives are one of these things. Makes me wonder if some some ultra high dollar custom knife maker would actually vacuum pack one of his/her expensive knives before shipping to a customer, if that customer would keep it unopened.

It's a Skyline too. Open the bloody thing and use it. That thing won't appreciate in value in mint condition, unopened. It's begging to be used. Ask yourself this. Do you reaaaaaaaaaally believe, and be honest with yourself, that you will derive the same satisfaction out of looking at the knife through the plastic as you would flipping it open and using it? If yes, well I guess keep it in pristine condition.

It's just a Skyline. If you've got a black one, I can promise you it will feel the exact same. If for some reason you really don't want to open it, and don't have a black one, then just order a black one. Like was said earlier, it's only a $30 knife, and they sell them at Walmart.

Hell, I EDC and use my carbon fiber s90v Paramilitary 2 sprint run almost every day and it's a ~$300 knife.

Since your so torn on the inside, show that package what it feels like to be torn!

Seriously though, if it was a limited production ultra rare knife that would be one thing, but it's a $30 skyline. Whip it out and enjoy it!

Good point, and yes it is!

To the right person it might be more valuable in the future as mint-in-package, but I'm pretty sure I'll be the last owner, so another good point. There are some cardboard boxes that require breakdown around here.

I don't have a black one, but excellent suggestion. That's a nice EDC/user you've got! My user purchases are not in that range (yet?). Thanks though, will look in a Wally World near me.

Another vote for opening and using it. Life is short.

Vote counted!

Send it to me. I'll open it for you. I like to help.

What a nice gesture! Thanks for offering! If I decide to open but can't manage it myself, I'll PM you for an address and wait nervously for the result to be posted here. :D

I am a giver.:D
Good luck, and I hope to see some user pics in the future.

I agree it is a damn fine knife , but why wouldn't you want to open it ? I promise you it is not going to be worth much more than you payed for it , as least not in your lifetime. I can just see the for sale ad
'New in Clamshell Orange Skyline , ubar rare !!' :D I'm poking at ya. Use that badboy and enjoy your life.

I'll go against the grain and say if you don't need to use it and it gives you pleasure to keep it unopened, just leave it alone for now.
You can always open it later. You can't ever reseal it.

Nah, you need to open it and play with it. Just got my first Skyline in a trade, and it's really a fun knife.

Open it, and use it. Life's too short.

Someone on these forums said that if you die tomorrow, your wife might re-marry and her next husband is going to have all these beautiful knives that you never got a chance to use.

I took apart an M4 Military and a Titanium Military so I could have an all-Ti M4 Military. That little collaboration cost me over $400 and it's in my EDC rotation, along with a custom Horton, other Militaries, Para2's (one is a CTS-20CP sprint run), ZT350ZDP, a Sebenza, and they are all excellent performers. Unless you use them, you'll never know how good your knives are.

It's not something historical that needs to be preserved or piece of art whose sole purpose of its existence is to be looked at. It's a tool and meant to be used. Enjoy carrying and using it for its lightness, its slim profile, its cutting ability, and its ergonomics. If you break it, it's got a warranty that's among the best out there.

Send it to me if the other guy backs out. I know it can be really frustrating, trying to get a new knife out of a clamshell package while trying not to scratch it up with the knife you're using to cut the package open, but I give you my word that I've done it before and I'll do it again just for you. I'll even send you back the packaging to keep as proof.

Thanks for going against the grain trey999. Other than that, I'm starting to see a trend here. :p

Now that is freakin funny. Thanks for my first LOL of the day.
