I am dead set on getting one of these beautiful looking knives. I've never handled either Sage, but they appear to be the perfect EDC for my needs. I own 5 other Spydies (Dragonfly, Meerkat, waved Delica 4, FFG Delica 4, and a Tenacious) so i know that I will be happy with the Sage.
My main question is if I should go with the Sage 1 or 2? I've never owned a carbon fiber knife OR a titanium knife, so I can't decide which to spend my money on. I am perfectly willing to spend the extra money on the Sage 2 if I can be convinced that it is worth it. I won't have the luxury of handling either knife in person before placing an order, so I'm kind of leaning on some of you with experience to help steer me in the right direction. Thanks!

I like the sage II. I have had both, but thank the II is the best of the lot.

I played with both last week and pulled the trigger on a Sage 2.

I know some people will shake their head, but the Sage 1 feels like a persistence with CF scales.

I agree that it might feel slightly like a Persistence but the fit and finish on a Persistence doesn't compare to the Sage 1, not to mention S30V is on another level compared to 8cr13MoV. The Sage series ergonomics are also better than the Persistence, IMO.

I own both and like them equally, so I don't know how much help I can be other than to say that you'll love either one. Out of all the Spyderco's and other knife brands I own, the Sage 1 and 2 are among the most flawless and shiny knives in my collection. There's not one tooling mark on them and they polish just about every square mm, including the liners.

Why don't you just get both? That's what we all do eventually anyway so get the one you want more first and then save your pennies for the other. Problem solved! :)

Weight is really the only minus for the Sage 2.

But its really not even a concern on this small of a knife.

Given the choice, I'd get the 2

I have all 3 and like them all. If I could only have one it would probably be the Sage 2 because I like TI and I like frame locks.

I can get a slightly better grip on the Sage 1 since it has no lockbar to move in when open.

I traded my Sage2, only because I have some other Ti framelocks.

If I didn't have those other Ti knives I would have kept the 2, and think you would love the Sage 2 since you have no Ti knives.

As a lefty, I avoid carrying knives with right handed locks on principle, but if I were right handed, I'd be carrying a Sage I at least occasionally. Its textured CF offers a fair bit more traction than the smooth titanium on the Sage II. Plus, I've never been a fan of the unfinished look the exposed lockbar gives a RIL knife. Beyond that, they're both great knives, so you can't really go wrong with either.

I'm a lefty and I love my Sage II, its my EDC knife. The heat treat is awesome, lock up amazing and its super light and slim, perfect for near any situation.

I recently got a Ti military and I am not too impressed by it. It is way heavier then the Military and playing with the knife made the lockbar go from 40% to about 75%. I probably opened and closed it a hundred times.

I own both, and hands down, I vote for the Sage II. It is an absolute work of art. You will marvel at its sheer simplicity. Excellent materials and craftmanship.

I've owned both and kept the Sage 1. It just feels like a nicer knife to me. They are both great knives, it basically comes down to which lock you want. I personally don't care for frame locks - the way I hold my knives I'm always putting pressure on the wrong side of the lock when I go to close them, plus they feel less substantial and a little off balance in my hand because such a large portion of the handle is dedicated to the locking mechanism.

Personally, I would recommend the 1. The Sage 1s are flawless in fit and finish and the liner lock should be simple, familiar, fast, and strong.

i have both, the sage 2 is a little thinner and i like that more. i cant decide which one i like better though

I personally like the Sage 2 the best.
Only because I like the slight heft it has and the fact it's a RIL.

I have both and love both.

I really like the Sage 2 for it's titanium frame lock. Sounds great opening and feels solid. Neat having such a simplistic lock and knife-very few parts.

I really like the Sage 1 for it's carbon fiber scales. Great feel/grip and looks awesome. The liner lock is very solid - most likely as strong as the Ti frame lock.

Pick the one that looks the best for you. Really, you can't go wrong either way.

The first is the best. I have all three, I like all three. For your first by all means get the I, it's got a great feel to it, then when you look at it, it's flawless. The grip is a little better on the I.:D After you use the Sage I a while you will want a II.
