To owners of the Sage 1 and 2...

Thanks for all of the great input! So is the Sage 2 actually noticeably thinner that the Sage 1? If so, that's great!
Do the carbon fiber handles and the titanium handles both stand up to heavy usage well, or does one start to show signs of wear more quickly?

Sage 2 all the way, CF is more for looks than performance, a Titanium framelock is a must have for any knife collection

Not really. The Sage 1 is .05", or about 3/64" thicker (.451 vs .401). If you put the two end to end, you can see that differnce, but if you just held one and then the other repeatedly but without directly comparing or measuring them, and without prior knowledge that there was a difference, I doubt you'd notice one. It's like the weights, yes, the Sage 2 is heavier, by .3 oz. That's about the weight of 3 pennies. Most folks would not notice, or barely notice, that either without the aid of a scale.

Sage 1 and that's final. The Sage 2 just doesn't do it for me. I love Ti for some things, but it doesn't really have any grip or visual appeal.

Thanks again for all the advice! I just pulled the trigger on a Sage 2 and I can't F'ing wait!

I have a Sage 1 and love it, but would say that sometimes it seems very delicate. I know that it isn't, but the lite-weight combined with the smaller build makes it seem delicate to me, and I've been wondering if a Sage 2's extra weight wouldn't solve that problem in my mind. I still love my Sage, and next to my RAT 1 it's probably my most carried knife. As far as I can tell, there's no way to go wrong with any of the Sages.

I started with Sage 1, loved it so much I got the Sage 2, then Sage 3.
Love them all. If I must keep only one, it will the Sage 2, but which ever you get is the right one... Enjoy!

Tape three pennies to your Sage I, or just hold it and them in your hand at the same time. You're now holding the weight of a Sage II. I can't see if feeling more substantial, but some folks are more sensitive to weight differences than others, and some of those folks assign greater significance to those differences than others. Totally agree that this is one of the safest choices among Spyderco knives, unless there's something you totally hate about one or the other, the three Sages are all great knives.

I've owned both and kept the Sage 1. It just feels like a nicer knife to me. They are both great knives, it basically comes down to which lock you want. I personally don't care for frame locks - the way I hold my knives I'm always putting pressure on the wrong side of the lock when I go to close them, plus they feel less substantial and a little off balance in my hand because such a large portion of the handle is dedicated to the locking mechanism.

Personally, I would recommend the 1. The Sage 1s are flawless in fit and finish and the liner lock should be simple, familiar, fast, and strong.

I can't agree with you more. I owned and used both for a considerable time and eventually sold the Sage2. It's a great knife, but for me, the Sage1 has 5 or 6 little advantages and was always the Sage I grabbed from my drawer. Now that the thrill of acquiring a CF Military has worn off, My Sage1 is THE EDC knife for me out of the few dozen knives I own.

Well, I just got my Sage 2 in the mail, and I must say that I am pretty damn impressed! It just oozes quality, and is easily the most comfortable knife that I own. The ergonomics just mold perfectly to my medium-large hand.
This knife is so simple, beautiful, and well made that I just can't stop playing with it! This is easily my most favorite knife, and can just tell that the Sage 1 is surely a masterpiece as well. Thanks to all for the advice and suggestions!
While this may be my first Spyderco Sage, it probably won't be my last... I'm now really looking forward to seeing the Sage 4!
