I've held the Sebenza and Inkosi in person before. Not what I call a fidget knife but, maybe that's just what the doctor ordered. Like many of you guys, I have this unquenchable thirst for the next choice. I'm trying to hit the brakes a little, so I've been thinking of a solution.

Ultimately I must decide what's right from me, though I would love to tap into some of your guy's experiences. Currently, I have 2 Spydies and 2 Benchmades.:S30V, M4, 154CM, 20CV. These are great knives could easily last me many decades. Somehow the whisper if the CRK keeps haunting me and I'm here to try to put a stop to it one way or another.

How could I possibly want to sell 4 knives of such quality for 1? Over the next few month and years, isn't it better to have a few knives ready to go for any occasion? "Hmm, which knife today?" The enthusiast in me loves the options, but the minimalist in me believes I'll get a better kick out of throwing just one knife through its paces 365 days a year.

If I do take the plunge, I can't decide on inlays or not. 21 or Inkosi, but that's a problem for another day. I also don't want to sell everything and wind up underwhelmed. Very much so on a fence. Patience will be my best companion for now, if I let em.

Cheers Amigos,
Dalton

Listen I'll break it down for you like this. If you have the knife addiction enough to make a profile on this website then trust me you will not and I repeat you will not stop at a Sebenza. You'll end up just appreciating the more expensive knives. I thought the same after my first CRK almost 3 years ago & these are just a few of my more expensive knives

Keep your knives and save for a used Sebenza or Inkosi. After that I would look into the inlays.
I have; seb 21, 25 and also owned Inkosi, and bunch of Benchmades and Spyderco. They all have a spot in my rotation. Few slight differences but the inkosi very similar to the Seb 25. The Small Inkosi is a very capable knife but just too small for me. I much prefer the small 21 over it, but that from my point of view. Many others have loved the inkosi over the 21 as well.
They all serve a different purpose on my edc rotation and very hard to give you a good answer.

I'd say keep what you have and save for a CRK. Try buying used off the exchange for a cheaper way to try on a sebenza before you sell off your current collection.

I buy and I sell (for fun, NOT profit) and I get to handle quite a few new knives or new models. BUT, I only carry the same EDC and do not switch off like many folks enjoy. Either way is okay. I still have a variety of new folders, but only admire them for a while and then pass them on again.
I carried my most recent knife for well over two years without interruption, and then sold it as I want to get a bit of diversity into my personal situation.
I have just purchased (again), and am now carrying an old, scarred, slab-sided titanium, large Classic Sebenza. This model is an old friend of mine, (same model, different knife) and I did carry one about five yrs ago before selling in a fit of stupidity.
Many Sebbies and several Zaans have gone thru my hands...to admire, not to carry. A small Sebbie falls out of my large hand, but I've still owned many models, both large and small, for the pure visual enjoyment of the wood inlays, unique craftsmanship and so forth. I just prefer the basic model...spider-tracks and all. A darned hard knife to beat...
I don't think that there is a right...or wrong way to do this.

OP - you'll have to try it out. If your budget is tight, I suggest you to sell two of your knives that can be purchased easily should you decide to do so in the future. Also, buy a used Sebenza so that if it is not for you, you can sell it without much loss.

I got my first (and only) Sebenza a few months ago and honestly, I am still warming up to it. In other words, I've not decided if it is really for me.

I was underwhelmed by the (plain) large 21. I bought a large 21 with micarta inlays, and liked it better. I haven't handled the Inkosi; but I preferred the feel of the 25 over that of the 21 (and still preferred micarta inlays over plain). I never purchased a 25 for a couple of reasons (prefer Insingo blade, was leaning toward WC version, then chose to wait for Inkosi). Once the large Inkosi became available, I found myself uncertain about making the jump. Luckily, I've recently overcome the urge to purchase folders... which is probably for the best since I pretty much carry the same few knives most of the time. (Now, if I could just convince myself to part with 20-25 that I don't carry, I'd be all set, lol)
Unless you know you're going to love the CRK & not regret forfeiting your other knives, I'd recommend against selling them to fund the purchase... take a little more time to save the money, get your CRK, then decide if getting rid of the others is the right choice for you.

I got rid of a few knives from my collection starting with a R J Martin designed Kershaw Zing. I had two, one orange, one black. The black one became a gift to an in-law. The wife tried to warn me against it but, I would not listen. To make a long story short, I bought another, for more money and in inferior shape to my first one, it was perfect.

If you have any sentimental or emotional attachment to the knives you own now, DON'T SELL THEM!

Now, after you get a Sebenza and you decide your other knives will never get used again, selling is cool. Only after.

I am in the same boat as you. The problem comes when you are down to one knife and it isnt enough. Put three of your knives away where you can't get them and spend a month with just the one knife and see how it feels.

Downsizing is healthy. My New Years resolution was to downsize my collection. Since the New Year I've given away eighteen knives and sold one. No regrets. None at all.

You only own 4 knives and are considering hitting the brakes presumably because thatis too many. knives? Geez, man, way to make me with 16 knives feel like an irresponsible materialist.

LOL! I have 16 just in my sock drawer, yet alone in my top and shirt drawer. Seriously, it is a sickness that rarely finds a cure, so the best way is to just deal with the symptoms and mnimize the effects. The point of knowng when it has gone too far, or infected the body, is when you buy a knife rather than pay a bill or it causes serious stress on a relationship. Colleciting is fun, but watch out if it becomes an idol.

Sorry about the surgeon general's warning. And sorry if this gets off the OP's original intent. Now that that is done, try to set limits, and be honest with yourself, if you are going to regret selling a piece, don't or make sure you are getting something else on your bucket list. Lastly, or before buying anything new, set a 1 for 2 rule, where if you want a new knife, you have to sell, trade, or give away two. I need to get to a point where I sell some to buy a new one and bring my collection to a more manageable level. I admire other dollectors who only keep ones they actually use. I have always wanted a Sebenza ever since I saw them years ago.

I don't think I'd ever go back to having only one folder. If I did it would be because my interest waned. Not because of a desire to simplify.
I recently thinned out my folder collection. But in general I like some diversity. For what it's worth, I was underwhelmed by the Sebenza 21 with micarta inlays. I preferred the Spyderco Slysz Bowie.

I think you have settled into your comfortable niche overall with knives. I do think getting rid of things is healthy if you are willing. Been watching all of your giveaways on the traditional forum, but I have not participated. I just have enough.

I think every knife afficionado should eventually buy what you consider an "expensive" knife or two. It is part of the evolution of the hobby. If you buy something "expensive" and are not enamored with it, sell it and get most of your money back. I just purchased a Todd Davison folder which I consider expensive and so far I'm pleased. It is my most expensive folder to date.

Four knives and hitting the brakes.....we all have our comfort zone. I just bought four knives in the last week.

^ This is spot on.
I think you're doomed already, though...

If you think you're going to find that " one knife " all I can do is laugh. :D

The one knife thing is kind of like the "one gun" thing. We would like to think such a beastie exists for us, but it doesn't. Enjoy the ride.

Exactly. It's a journey, not a destination.

That reminds me, I need to sell my Sebenza, just doesn't do it for me.
