To what degree do you let the sheeple factor dictate you knife carry?

I deal alot in customer service, I go to diff courthouses in the state and fix thier computer and network probs so I have to think about it a little. I dont usually carry my striders or other agressive camo'd knives. I do carry 3-4 knives/mulit-tools though which the gaurds never like. I try to keep the knives somewhat low key and knives like my sebbies get compliments instead of fear.

Nearly gave my department head and faculty secretary a heart attack when I casually pulled out my Spyderco Manix to cut up a bunch of star fruit in the office at school(private college) the other day. They warmed up to the knife when I shared the fruit with them. Did I stop carrying my Manix because of their initial reaction?..............NOT A CHANCE!

I dont have any room to talk EDC a Native, but at least I see the issue! But maybe, just maybe a big old lockback is over kill on-campus.

I got an excuse, though. I'm in da yooper, eh!

Yeah but seriously, I should just stick with the slippies/SAK/smallish lockback. Actually the SAK would be ideal, but I've fallen in love with pocket clips and overly large blades since a young age.

I've saved so many of my students so much time and trouble by cutting up heavy art supply boards, etc in my class that I wouldn't say the Manix is overkill on campus(in my situation). I usually carry a small slipjoint as well but only had the Manix that day. Ultimately if I'm using the knife as a tool and not a weapon, the size of my legal knife shouldn't be an issue.

Well hey, if its appropriet to the job it does... I agree about the size/tool deal, but unfortunately many people in positions of power do not, and that would be my concern (then, I'm only a student).

D3/SE,

Have you considered the Spyderco Paramilitary? It has a bigger handle with a 3" blade.

To answer your question, as long as it's legal, the sheeple can kiss my ass. I just don't act like a maniac with a weapon, I use my knives as tools and openly display using them as such.

During the weekend and in the evenings, I pretty much carry whatever I feel like carrying as I'm not aware of any laws that might say otherwise in this area. If I'm going to sporting events or other social outings, I generally carry a knife I don't have to clip, so I guess I do let the sheeple influence at times. :) At this stage of the game, for me at least, I just don't want the extra attention a big blade might attract is some situations.

Most of my time is spent at airports, so I am usually carrying what is appropriate for my work. I do have some leeway, But most of the sheeple I come in contact with seek me and my knife out so I can do whatever job they are not prepared for that requires a knife. I used to lend out my knives so others could do the jobs, but after a guy dropped my blade open leatherman off a 30' pole to "return" it to me, and snapped the blade, I stopped lending out my knives. His reply to me exclaiming the blade snapped was," Hey, you shouldn't have lent it to me".

I'm mindful of other peoples' reactions to my knives, but it doesn't dictate what I carry. I figure we're carrying knives for using, and I see no point in carrying a knife that isn't large enough to do the jobs I might expect to do in the run of a day. I also don't really see the point in carrying more than I need, either(I'm talking 1/2 dozen knives at a time).

A few things-
On some occasions, I must let them dictate me 100% (school, airports :) )
But usually, I letthem dictate me only to a point of need. I try not to carry a knife that exceeds the risk/need. For example, my favorite knife is the Gerber gator. However, when I pull that out to open a pack of beef jerky, some people can get shocked, so usually I carry around my Kershaw Scallion (which of course has its own risks, considering it is assisted opening). However, in situations where I may need the Gator, I will take it with me no matter what people think.
However, when I am in more rural Texas people dont give a crap. Half the people there pick their teeth with a knife twice the size of anything I have, so I'm good.

EDIT: As to my knives, yes, I realize I don't have the best

I'd like to say I dont care, but I honestly do.
Comments and reactions based on cultured, prideful stupidity due to years of brainwashing have a special way of pissing me off to a ridiculous extent. So for my own blood pressure and mental sanity day by day, I do all I can do to avoid having to subject myself to the heffer-like bleat of blind ignorance.

Basically what I'm saying is that Sheeple suck for putting us in the position to have to discuss what we would do to appease them for being wrong.

Here it affects me enough because I have seen people have panic attacks from seeing a knife...so I carry a smaller blade for EDC usage and if I have a larger blade for SD or deep utility, I make sure it is a low rider in the pocket.

When I am down the Eastern Shore or in the Rural South, everyone has a big ass knife so I don't really have to worry about it.

This is what I do. A Dragonfly for the sheeple and a larger knife for bigger tasks.

I don't care what others think.
I don't care if others are offended.
I'll carry what I want, when I want.:D

Thanks very much for the reactions so far:cool:

Over here in the Netherlands it's still legal to carry any folder if the opened length doesn't exceed 28 cm.

So legally I'm OK to carry the knives I mentioned;)

Maybe I should just stop caring so much about the NKP and knives.

You just gave me more confidence to carry this old favourite of mine:

Thanks very much:thumbup:

Zero degree, course this is Alaska. We feed sheeple to the sled dogs!

I lived on Kodiak for a couple of years back in the 80s. I do miss it, if my wife would go for I'd move back. That's never going to happen :grumpy: .

I always carry a Victorinox classic with me and leave the bigger stuff home. The classic is just amazing. I go through about one a year. Pick my teeth, pluck my nose hairs, cut my eyebrows, open packages etc...

Wouldn't be without it. I don't really care what the sheeple think, I just like the small classic in my pocket - big knives just seem too bulky for every day.
