To what degree do you let the sheeple factor dictate you knife carry?

I EDC two knives normally. One sheeple friendly and one as Borat would say, "not so much". I do find I enjoy it when sheeple have to ask me for a knife for some task and I hand them the "not so much" knife totally for my own amusment.

I work at a high school, so I prefer to be discrete. I keep a multitool in my bag, maybe a folder in a coat pocket. One time a pulled out a Kershaw Vapor to cut a cake when nobody had a knife. One other teacher freaked and actually took a couple of steps back. A high school is a pretty left wing, granola-oriented place to work. The irony is, I bet she would've felt totally at ease if I were wielding a 10 inch kitchen knife.

I was once informed by a very nervous but well-meaning sheeple type person that my spyderco salt was a switchblade and therefore illegal.

It was all I could do not to laugh in his face.

Like Most of you have posted, you carry several blades on you everyday. The unfortunate truth is that Shepple get nervous around knives. The way we utilize them can make all the difference. I carry a BM940 in my right pocket, a Delica 4 in my left. My money clip is a K.I.S.S. and there is always some sort of "sharp steel" (or titanium) hanging on my neck. I use the knife that is right for the situation.

Most would agree that nowadays the folders are so well designed, and we are so proficient with them, that we can deploy one or more of our edc's as fast (if not faster) then an automatic. I find that deployment alone makes shepple week in the knees.

My point is this: I don't let the shepple dictate to me what I carry. I use my knives as tools and I USE THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB. I do however let their narrow minded mentality dictate how I deploy. They just feel better when you use two hands to open the blade...maybe it reminds them of their grandfather and his Barlow.

Who cares what the sheeple think, I carry and use what I want. Sometimes I find myself in a sheeple audience at the boat launches in rural areas and feel the need to display how a good knife should be carried on the belt. This can be a useful stragety if there is a liberal slow poke trying to count his baits and empty beer bottles while dragging the boat out of the water. It seems that when they see a person waiting around too long wearing good knives it helps to speed up the line.

I'm currently EDC a full size Manix... So the sheeple can't be affecting me too much. I get some looks when I open a letter though; of course, this is liberal city #1 - Eugene.

I'm gonna start carrying one of these. The hell with sheeple!

I used to let the "Sheeple factor" influence my EDC choice, but not anymore, at some point, I had an epiphany, that I could do more good for my fellow Knifeknuts by using a large folder safely and sanely, reinforcing the concept of the knife as a *tool* to the general public

I slowly started increasing the size of my EDC, and would use it publicly to open boxes and cut them down as such, not caring if there were customers on the sales floor

I started off upsizing from the Cricket to a Delica, then to a Para, and now to the Millie......

I simpy open the knife, perform my cutting chore(s) calmly and sanely, fold and repocket the knife like it's an everyday occurence (which it is), no flick openings, no Spyderdrops, just a slow, predictable thumb open (or two-handed opening) and an equaly slow, simple closing (two handed)

I've used my Millie (fully serrated Millie) to open a small package right in front of a customer and no one batted an eye, heck, many times the customer comments "that's a nice knife", i glance at the knife, look up at the customer, and grunt "yeah, i guess it is", like i never even thought of it that way, giving them the impression that i see it as a mundane tool

it's all in the presentation....

Public Sheeple, no effect on my carry.

Work Sheeple, that has to be a different story.

Manix is always clipped in left front pocket but at work the blade on the Leatherman gets more of a workout. Not really worried about scaring people, but if one of the higherups were to see my Manix, they may very well tell me not to bring it back. Only worked there 8 years, why should they trust me?

I don't try to offend anyone but I carry and use what I want.Would you let someone tell you how to dress? If I don't know you then your opinion means squat to me.

Well, we all let the people dictate what we wear to some extent.

Hell, if it didn't we would all be naked.

I don't let the general public dictate what I carry (Spyderco Military 98.3% of the time), but to some degree I let them dictate who I use it in front of. If a customer comes into my place of work and needs something cut (blister pack), I grab the broken pair of scissors that sit on counter. If you want to whip your blade out and impress someone, or to get a reaction out of them, go ahead. I won't do it, and not because I'm afraid of how they'll react. I'm in a work setting and simply choose not to let it be known that I carry a knife. Of course it's a tool, but gauging from a lot of your responses, the general public tend to not perceive knives in that manner.

I also don't take it out in restaurants. Really bad etiquette, IMHO. Anywhere else is fine though, although I try to be discreet. It's just my preference.

I go by what is generally acceptable in the circumstance I find myself in.
I try to be aware of the environment I am in and respectful of those around me.
If a person has been brought up to view certain things as bad or evil,
I have no right to disregard that in my conduct around them.
Why would I want to deliberately scare or offend another person?
That can be counter productive and generally serves no useful purpose.
Sure, I can legally carry a knife, and I have the right to pull it out and use it,
but my legal rights do not trump or negate my responsibility to be considerate of those around me.

After all, we say that we live in a civilized society,
well then that brings certain responsibility's and obligations to our fellow citizens.

Do what is right, because it is the right thing to do.

We all let sheeple dictate our carry to some degree, who makes the laws after all:eek:

As lond as its legal I carry whatever the hell I want.

I always carry a large single bladed tactical folder, usually with a 4.0 to 4.25 inch blade. The ones I have are all set up with a deep carry clip that pretty much hides the knife in my right front pocket. Do I use this knife? YES I do, on occassion. I also carry a small slipjoint in my other pocket, currently a Case Barlow, that I pull out and use if I think my larger blade will frighten the sheeple. I have done this since I was 20 years old, and now I'm 35 years old. Don't see it ever coming to a stop, unless our GOVERNMENT gets involved!

I usually carry a SAK, but more recently a SUBCOM.

But when I really wanna whip up the sheeple into a frenzy, I just ask Pyramid Head to give me a loaner for the day. :D

I usually don't carry large knives as EDC.
So nope I'm not worried about the sheeple.
I worry about the Sheeple when what I carry is illegal.
I have a BM 710 that if I carried in LA (where I go to freq.) would be illegal.
In Ohio (where I live) the 710 isn't an issue but I just don't need
that much horsepower. so it's usually an SAK soldier and I
keep the 710 for camping and heavier cutting chores.

MUH HAAWW!!! Awesome!!

I'm a college student so I tend to carry what is appropriate for campus. My school EDC is a William Henry T09 Kestrel. On weekends I tend to carry a Benchmade 440 Opportunist simply because I like the bladeshape, looks and it fits my hand well.

The point is there's no satisfying the sheeple! Their spying mentality and ever so shocked approach can never be bought off and in their case at least, size doesn't matter they hate all knives on sight(Wonder how they think their food is prepared or how they eat it??).

I think I've begun to carry more knives because of their spite filled hysteria.Knives are tools and works of art. If some nutter goes on the street brandishing knives and threatening people of course that's wrong but the sheeple don't only see that, they equate knife ownership with evil and evil thoughts. Let's have no illusions they think anybody who has a knife is sick, end of the matter.Prejudiced monsters!
