To Whom It May Concern

Thanks Yangdu!!! :D

I would not be here if I wanted Souless, Lifeless Mass produced Machine made products.

People who lose appreciation of traditional items, made in traditional ways, lose much. This world is very ancient, and the cultures of it's peoples very rich. Thank you Yangdu for all your hard work and devotion in bringing the traditional knives of your homeland to us westerners. The fellow who was finding fault with your company would probably find fault with a beautiful sunset, because it didn't meet his expectations. You can't make such people happy, happiness is something they have to learn for themselves.

Through all this recent hoorah, I saw in my minds eye a picture of one of those Hindu demi Gods, the one with all the extra arms waving around.

If I were skilled with a camera/computer, I would superimpose a hammer in each of those arm's hands, with the caption:

How Bura Really Gets All Those Khuks Made

>>>>>>>

HI khuks are wonderful tools and expressions, many of which are Art.
Imperfections and all- just like us, the people who use them.

HI's Khukri are the best there is, bar none.

I always recommend them to people looking for a large knife. Everyone I've suggested them to has been extremely happy with them.

They are handmade knives, nothing perfect about handmade, but they have a character that makes them more desireable.

Every time I pick one up I feel like I'm shaking hands with the maker... A maker that's on the other side of the planet. It's this connection that brings us all together.

I may disagree with a lot of folks here, but there's one thing we agree on:

HI Khuks rule, and Yangdu is an angel.

That the unfulfilled desires of one overcame self-control and ruffled the peace of this place for a brief time is not an adverse reflection on your work or the work of the Kamis.

Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder. I have custody of beautiful khukuri made by the kamis of HI, for which I thank you and them.

There's something else too, Cabbit:

You can be a hard nosed guy, but you have a character with a real foundation, and if a guy like you can say:

"Every time I pick one up I feel like I'm shaking hands with the maker... A maker that's on the other side of the planet. It's this connection that brings us all together."

Then a guy like me knows he's not crazy, there really is something good here.

It's a strange world we live in where something stamped out by machines in the tens of thousands is more highly regarded than a unique handcrafted item. I'll take the latter every time. Keep up the good work, Yangdu!

It's a shame that Yangdu even had to post this, but it's also yet another reflection of the ladys' character.

Yangdu, rest assured that we are all completely behind you AND your fine products.

Yangdu, you need not clarify. HI products are truly beautiful, handmade products and working tools with, I believe, actual personalities. They will each find their proper respective owners in time. Thank you for your service.

It is a neccesary part of Yangdu's life to step out and share what's going on. This is our forum and she's a member too. It's good for her to say HI khuks are handmade and wonderful. We shouldn't dwell upon whether she was 'forced' or 'compelled' to answer. This is too many words on my part but you get the drift. A OK full steam ahead, and this place is win win as we go.

Yangdu,
I'm relatively new here, but I just wanted to say thanks again for all your work and for making these fine products available to us. Please don't be discouraged by one negative poster. Your loyal customer base is a testament of the quality business that you run.

thanks again,
ac

Yangdu, you know how many khukuris I have bought from you this past year alone. Trust me, I've loved khukuris for over fifty years, and if these weren't the best hand-crafted knives in the world I'd know by now! As a craftsman myself I know how difficult it is to make anything even with all the modern equipment available to me. And take a look at the tools the kamis are using to produce these works of art. It's truly amazing and I am pleased to support them and other kamis I support. Also, you personally have been immaculate in your business dealings with me and I thank you for your honourable approach and integrity. I WILL be buying more khukuris! God bless you, Yangdu, from the UK.

Well said Cabbit!

I can tell you absolutely that if HI knives WERE made by machine, if the process could be automated, then I still would have bought a sampling of them, a cross-section of the major models, and stopped at about a dozen knives and moved on. I've been doing that in one form or another for manufacturers I like for 20 years.

The ONLY reason I keep coming back to HI is because each one is a new creation with unique features. Some have been better than others; that's what makes things interesting.

If HI ever went to a an automated system for making their khukuris, if such a thing could be done, 3 things would happen:

1) Their target specified quality consistency would rise overall as any and all variations caused by stress or human error or minor anomalies in the materials would disappear, and

2) Their output would double and double again and they would sell _far_ more knives worldwide.

The last thing that would happen is that half this forum would vanish, the Cantina almost entirely, and all the real soul WOULD be sucked out of HI and her knives, and Uncle Bill's memory and life's work would have been dishonored.

Subsequently, I don't think going with keeping things the way they are needs to be defended OR explained.

But that's just me I _could_ be wro... Actually, you know, not this time! On this one I know I'm right. ;)

Regards,

Norm

When I saw this thread my first thought was "Huh? Isn't that kind of like saying the sky is blue and the grass green?" Then I found the thread which prompted Yangdu's statement and it all made sense. There was no point or reason for that thread besides trolling, pure and simple. Hopefully newbies will be able to sort the wheat from the chaff and not allow such comments to color their opinions. I can only imagine they were made by someone who has never bothered to actually use a HI khukuri. They may not have the CNC precision of a Chris Reeve or Busse blade, but I defy anyone to show me another ~$150 blade whose edge can take the kind of abuse I have subjected my HI blades to. Duds slip through from time to time, in fact I recieved one myself a few years ago. I recieved a replacement before I could even take the defective blade to the post office. Those are the kinds of products and service HI has to offer; if that's not your thing, then please leave more for the rest of us. To the uninitiated, I highly recommend you try them out, the cost is minimal and the benefits substantial.

I haven't been following all this too closely, but I have a rough idea of what's going on. Others have questioned HI before. I've never had a problem with Himalayan Imports, or their khukuris, or Bill or Yangdu. Clearly they aren't for everyone, but for those who have eyes to see, hands to feel, and soul to know, they are wonderful blades. Truly world-class knives.

I am very new here and new to HI products. I have so far used two different blades and I am very impressed with their quality. There is NO WHERE else you can get such massive well made khuks for the price and the outstanding service HI provides. I will be bringing many into the fold once they see these blades in action and they are given as gifts or awards to special friends and or competitors.

Thank you Yangdu and sorry you had to make such a post in the first place.

All the information is in the FAQ's as well as the HI website. I have never seen such an open book company.

Thank you,

Billy

There are some of us that own other brands (I know I have sinned) and I can say ...and have many times they just don't compare. Maybe the only way to know that for sure is to compare...not many brands I know of have the confidence to do that willingly the way HI has. Try them all and you will understand what it means to say neff said!
