Well, got a chance to head back to the old camp site in the woods. It was rather wet in the area as you can see: Which probably helped lead to this scene of greatness: The Mighty Toad Cannon!!! Never again will amphibians go softly into that good night. Here you get a rare "behind the scenes" look at what goes into moments like this: The little guy was lurking around the fire pit, and we had to get him clear before getting a fire going anyway. The cannon was specifically brought for a toad cannon pic, so the day is off to a great start. Brought the Benchmade Jungle Bolo out to the woods for the first time ever: It got some use leading up to that pic, but was not used much in getting the fire going: While gathering wood, my brother happened upon another great beast. Toads may not roar, but here you can see the Toad's Snarl: The SOG Snarl. (Not a great knife really...brought it along just for a toad picture. Day is working out really well.) "It's log, it's log, it's big, it's heavy, it's wood..." The site has been used a fair bit in our absence, and the baton/mallet thing my brother had made was nowhere to be found. Might as well make a new one...with a saw and the Jungle Bolo, it was quite easy: More fire:
Getting to work on the steak stick with a Ka-Bar EK45: Time for steak! Might as well have some sausages too... Just cooking and eating that steak. Bite off the outer bits, and cook it some more (fun when not in a hurry): Just enjoying the fire now that eating is done: We had a couple of knives with us: And a sharpening stone, so my brother worked on the Golok's edge a bit: Decided to chamfer the pommel area of the mallet thing a bit for more hand comfort in the future. The ZT 0804CF worked quite well for that: On the way out, we encountered a vicious, deadly mouse! Overall, a good day. The Jungle Bolo and EK45 worked rather well. The Bolo is nice and light, and the handle material helps make up for the small handle. It works well as a knife, but is NOT a machete...not even a short machete. It is definitely purely a knife, albeit one that chops fairly well.
My brother has an insane first aid kit with him...we could have gotten shot and still made it back to the car. Didn't get shot though, so that was nice.
He actually looks quite content to me, probably because he is well armed. The rest of your pics are really annoying; I mean, who wants to see great pics of a good time? I am glad the mouse did not attack.
I wrote to the Department of Defense that the toads were arming themselves. They laughed at me. Now I have proof. Looks like a great day Stabman. Thanks for sharing. Damn toads...
The toad revolution is at hand! Now you know...which is 50% of the battle. The river is pretty wide, which helps.
Nice thread, thanks for sharing your fun. Nothing like cruising in the woods, the crackle and smell of a fire, while working with a knife or ten!
I'm beginning to think that toads want to be on the internet. They were sitting there for quite a while to allow pictures to be taken. Pretty sure they're jealous of all the attention cats have been getting all these years.
This just confirms my belief that toads and other amphibians are out to get us. BTW, where did you get that dandy little cannon and what does it shoot?
