Todays $1 flea market super tinker

I've been told in Switzerland it's still a pretty useful thing, news paper and such I guess.

I know the hook can be good for taking a pot off a campfire, and I'm sure you can come up with a use if you get creative.
A guy can get creative…I’ve used that hook to dig gravel from between the tread on my work boots lol

*oh yeah, and congrats…that’s a heck of a find for a $1

I showed it to my wife. I said, I could put translucent green scales on my tinker. She said “And then give it to me?”
My dad and I went to the swap meet together ( he just wanted to get some of those fire roasted peanuts) ,and when I told him I had ordered these scales for the knife I scored there he asked if I could get him a pair for his tinker.
That's when I figured I'd just give it to him.
I think he still " packs " his tinker at work, and the red scales are probably looking pretty rough after a few years of that.

Nice work Hickory, sounds like he'll love it.
JM2- and just like that you knew what to get your wife to make her happy, and then you can be matching :D
She already has eyes for a leatherman juice. The neon yellow kf4.... maybe I could satisfy her enough to forget that? Those are a might uncommon ya know.

If you think $1 is cheap, just imagine what he paid that could afford profit in just $1 😉
Or he bought it new and sold it for a buck after x number of years thinking "Meh ... I got my moneys worth out of it." not knowing Vic would  probably replace the scale(s) for the cost of shipping or a replacement set of scales (with choice of color) is around $12.
The other possibilities are (1) He found it or a co-worker or friend gave it to him long ago. (2) His "better 99.999%" ... "requested" ... he sell it ... possibly with a little blackmail (bribe?) thrown in, such as "you ain't getting any (and/or "you're sleeping on the closet floor/in the bathtub/dog's house/etc.") until you sell it!" She may have neglected to give him a minimum price, however.

These weren't personal items he was selling.

I would too, if Victorinox would just make the hook/nail file standard across the 91mm line, instead of limiting it to the Compact. While on the subject, I think it's odd the Compact even is a 91mm; it would be better as an 84mm, as in actually compact.
The Compact actually evolved from the late 84mm Golfer which had a similar toolset. Perhaps the demise of the 84mm scissors forced the move to 91mm, while being able to offer the hook & plus features as well.

Compact at SAK wiki (see History)

Re the parcel hook, when I was a kid and delivered 6 days a week, a stack of newspapers were bound with metal wire and tossed in front of your house for you to deliver. That metal cord really digs into your hands as you wrestle 30 pounds of paper. I sure wish I had the hook at that time.
