I got the pleasure of meetin up with forum member Snow for sme hiking and skills practice today. It was an awesome time, got to do some testing of Doc Canadas PSK he sent me, and got to do some firestarting practice with various tinders, Also got a chance to beat on my JK scout for awhile.

Snow is a cool dude, he had some sweet blades, I finally got to use the NWA forum knife, and WOW:eek:, I want one now BAD:o! He had sweet breeden as well as some other cool ones. He also had quite the light colection....I definately need to score me a Zebra light/headlamp.

Gorgeous weather 72 degrees and sunny, Leaves starting to change a little.

Heres the pics......Knife and Fire pron:cool:

Man, Doc had this rare earth magnet included in his PSK. Awesome, it was right on with my cammenga, I now believe this thing to be a PSK neccisity.
It has a red dot on the north facing end, and the earths magnitism pulls it north. It blew me away!

More to come........

Got o do some chopping with these two. The JK is a very effective chopper, the NWA did a good job, but not as well as the JK( I dont think it was meant to, so no suprise)

Doc made this really cool sparker out of a lantern lighter. Man this is a cool piece of kit. Very small, and I had no trouble lighting the dryer lint tinder every time with it. Snow really liked this piece too.

No animals were molested on this trip.:D;)

Sorry J. Didn't mean to butt in the middle of your thread. I thought you were done :D

Great stuff.

Brandon took sme great pics too, I hope he posts em here too. I didnt get a pic of the lights he had......

Look like a great day out, that PSK looks really neat, gonna have to look for some earth magnets now !!!

Yeah the earth magnet blew my mind. So simple, but very cool, and a great PSK addition as a backup for orientating. Man that sparker is neat too......

Dang, you're fast! I just got home a few minutes ago and fondled the new Jumbo S-type pack that was waiting for me. I'll upload my photos in a few.

awesome pics J... looks like a great time for sure...:D that is quite a collection of knives you 2 took with you....

Great pics man! Looks like a good time. Thanks for the blade shots. I've gotta get one of those NWA knives too!

I may be remembering wrong, but I think those rare earth magnets will screw up a compass if you get them too close together. Just something to be cognizant of!

Man, I know, my computer cooperated for once and is running pretty fast!

I had a good time man. Cant wait to do it again!

Looks like you guys had a good time. I need to make some time to get out.

John

Great pictures and it looks like you had a great time out there. When I saw the magnet I had to admit that was really cool. But then I had this image of myself in my head chasing after my earth-magnet because I floated it on a running stream bed :)

Good pics of the coglans lantern lighter too. Doc keeps claiming it was good but its nice to see the spark pics - that thing looks like it really throws 'em. Doc also claims you can do it one handed (but come to think of it, I'm not fully sure if doc was talking about his lantern lighter in the context of that statement or not:D )

With Doc, ya never know!:D

But seriously, Brandon and me shot like 20 pics to get one of it sparking!! Im glad we finally did.:o

Awesome hike today. I haven't been out in a while and it was nice to get some fresh air. We couldn't have asked for nicer weather, either. Meeting J was a pleasure. It's great to put a face to an internet legend and it's even better to have somebody to enjoy the outdoors with. Anyway, on to the pictures!

Here is my third party verification that the minimalist compass is accurate according to the tools we use. This thing was freaking sweet. The whole PSK that Doc Canada put together was awesome, but the compass blew me away. Totally simple and portable and very accurate. Not to mention it's way cooler to use a magnet on a leaf than it is to use a compass.

The lights. From left to right is the Ra Twisty 100Tw, Zebralight H30 Q5, and Jetbeam Jet II IBS. I've got all my bases covered with these three (not that it'll keep me from buying more).

Like I said, what a great time. The NWA knife performed flawlessly in my unskilled hands. If you don't have one, buy one. Hopefully we can get out next week and I will try and use the other blades I brought.

Oh and for the record, I lit the lint on my first spark with the lantern lighter. That little thing was awesome!
