We decided to take Rt2 along the Ohio river and do a hike at Greenbottom Swamp. We had never hiked there before. It's a swamp with a series of fields behind it leading to the OH river. Lots of game food plots, migratory birds and tons of frogs.

We basically bushwhacked along the edges of one long bog and then took a short nature trail to a viewing platform and hiked back down the other side. Was only about 3 miles roundtrip but the high grass and bushwhacking made it slow

Finally we were right at the water level and the trail sort of petered out:

We had to climb up the bank and walk down the rr tracks about the last quarter mile to our truck. Nice place. We'll be back!

Looks like a good day. Ms. HD needs a new hat I think - time for a Tilley? :)

They are going to close about seven of our WMAs in Georgia, due to lack of money. I guess they will just revert back into national forest, with out any managed hunts. they have also laid off a lot of game wardens.

On to Point Pleasant. This is where the Ohio and Kanawha rivers join and is a massive river bottom where the native americans lived and the settlers all met up when the river was the way to get around.

We went to the park where the Battle of Point Pleasant was

I think they say it was the first battle of the revolution because the Indians were backed by the British. But Cornstalk was actually mostly a peacermaker and was actually killed on a peacemaking mission:thumbdn: You can read about Cornstalk and Blue Jacket online.

Anyway besides Cornstalk "Mad Anne" Bailey is buried there:

There is a cool old inn house there made into a museum. The Daus of the Am Revolution run it I think. It's free. The rooms are done up like they would have been in the 1700's but in the little upstairs room is a cool little museum sort of thing:

Here's some settler and indian hatchet porn for ya

Also a great collection of arrowheads and other artifacts. If you walk the cornfields around the area they have lots of arrowheads in them.

No Mothman sightings, huh? :p

I've been close to there along 33 but never stopped. I might have to stop by in the spring on my way through. Looks like some cool historical stuff there.

Thanks for the pics,

I live about 3 miles from Milton. Did you hear about the Milton Flea Market burning down? At the end of my hollow is Lincoln Co.

Boyd Meadows is the owner of the Flea Mkt. I have goats but I didn't get them there. Bought a few chickens down there though.:D The Halfway Market there also owned by BM is my backpacking supply store. They have sort of a bulk and dry goods store and most of the stuff is adaptable. I live off Charley's Creek if you know where that is.
