phil, es ist 'do you speak english', nicht wahr? if they do, they will reply in english. if not, they won't. by asking them in german, you imply that you speak german, so they will continue in german. natürlich.
...and if there were a true metric system, the day would be broken up base ten rather than base 60-ish, each year is ten months, each month ten weeks, each week ten days, divided into ten hours, each consisting of ten minutes, each of which contain ten seconds. let the universe adjust. by that calendar, i'm only 24 years old too, rather than 67, so i will live longer.
we could alternately use the german 'grad' system, which divides the circle into 400 'grads', not 360 'degrees'. the clock would then be divided into 16 rather than 12 segments, making a 32 hour day rather than 24. hours would be 100 minutes, each being 100 seconds long. i'd suggest leaving months, years as they stand, even tho illogically astronomically based on reality rather than true metricity, even tho i likely won't reach 100.
the unions wouldn't like that tho, as it would mean a 10 hour work day - and a strike for a higher hourly wage would of course ensue.
