Too many attachments

Well it’s been a good three weeks, forgive me if I’m out of line for not being more patient . I also have not sold anything is three weeks!

IMO membership revenue might potentially be improved from some of us. Myself and others are eyeing upping from Gold to Platinum to get the 400mb if the attachment limit number can be lifted/resolved. I've managed about 2440 images in 200mb. 400mb would last me a super long time. Most are not here to just sell. Strikes me old sales images might be the easiest to age out. With Imgur available nothing is preventing more sales images.

Speaking as a long retired IT guy with an outdated skill and knowledge set.
Upgrading servers and storage took time and research before the $$$ could be spent.
And that's just the beginning.... then comes installation!

Don't upgrade just yet. (At least not for this reason.)

There is also a limit for number of attachments.

The Platinum caps are 400MB but also 1,000 total attachments.

I'm just under 200MB but have just over 2,600 attachments and have capped out.

I actually just deleted 500 images, both because of the issue at hand and because it was time. Now I no longer have access to my attachment list. With my paid membership lapsing, what happens to my remaining attachments? Do they still exist?

Nothing happens to them. They're still where you put them, viewable by (logged in) members

The image thing is far from the main thing but it is a thing.

I'm concerned that I'll get a warning for sharing this (or that it will be removed before anyone reads it) but the post to which you responded was actually my third attempt. The first version mentioned a moderator by name and a policy decision I found disappointing. I didn't think it was specifically rude or violated any rules. However, it was swiftly deleted with instructions for me to rephrase and not to make that moderator my "foil".

So I took the time to retype the post, only mentioning the issue in a general way without naming names, and including a brief clarification on my honest intentions for having pursued the issue in the first place. That too was swiftly deleted with a message instructing me to either rephrase or "walk on", and to not talk about "what a great guy" I am or how "the mods are so mean". Neither of those things were my intention and the latter feels like a real stretch given what I had written.

I wrote it a third time in the limited form you saw above but I still feel bothered by the process. This kind of thing really bugs me (as does the staff member in question boasting about moderating me or making fun of me in Whine & Cheese). There is more to say on that issue and I'm far from perfect but the fact that sharing just this much presents risk to me as a member feels like an issue in its own right.

I want to be clear that I understand moderation as a necessity, that moderation is generally unpaid work done by ordinary human beings, and that a lot of them here are really good guys who genuinely care about this forum and its membership. While I've made mistakes in the past and I haven't always been on the right side of a rule, we should also recognize that moderation isn't always fair, that moderators can make mistakes, and that the power of moderation can be abused. While such things are relatively rare here, it is an area where Blade Forums could use improvement.

I'm tagging Spark here because if this post is crossing a line, I need to be reprimanded or whatever for talking about what I think are legit issues, or if I'm pushing too far from the boundaries of the thread where some of it went down; I'd at least like him to be aware of the situation. I'd also like him to be aware of some of what I need to think about as I weigh whether or not I want to provide another $60 or more for membership or if I want to continue concentrating my patronage of independent knife makers to this forum.

Now, it's no secret that my issues with you derive from your attachment to posting images of, or references to chubby ladies in various states of nudity or near nudity, and provocative poses wherever and whenever it suits your desire. But, those images do not belong in Tech Support threads, and frankly, IMHO, don't belong on these forums, though Spark legislates what is acceptable in W&C and if you're honest, you'll admit I've never censored or removed your posts there, much as I find them repulsive. The only time you and I have crossed swords, for which I'm the big bad meanie, is when you've posted inappropriate comments or images in the main forums, or have PM'd me several times to consider giving a 500th chance to your recently departed pals who were banned for various abuses of the forum, its members, the moderation staff...and then bombarded the site with fake and profane registrations for months, thereafter.

So, yeah, you've sort of worn out your welcome with me...because when I explained to you via PM in the past the reasons why the porn wasn't okay, or your pals who were banned by myself, Boru13 and other mods, were not okay, and that despite your protestations to the contrary, your justifications of your behavior weren't okay, you just decided not to take those explanations to heart.

Then you ask me if it's okay if I spend some time opening closed threads on your behalf so you can get rid of whatever posts and images you want for your own purposes, (after Spark said not to go ahead and start going scorched earth), and I told you I wasn't going to do it piecemeal...and the reason was because I have been spending hours per day helping other members remove their email and PayPal information from threads and conversations where they were prey to criminals. But I'm a bad guy because I didn't put in the time to help poor you with your very important and exigent issues.

So no, you were not, and are not, on the top of my list for favors. You'll notice that while I have moved some of your whiny posts about how wonderful you are and how abusive we are and how you're just misunderstood...to the moderator section...I haven't banned you or threatened to ban you.

The post to which you are responding is not referring to any of the issues with lady posts, other than in the fact that I've made mistakes in the past and I own that. It was a totally a separate issue. Also, I was only looking to get two or three threads temporarily unlocked so I could go in and do the work of scrubbing 100 attachments, both for forum-wide data reasons and because they just don't need to exist anymore.

On the lady posts, I've admitted that I should not have included the reference picture of what Imgur took down outside of W&C. You were right about that. While technically clothed, it was racy content and it did not belong here. It wasn't the removal of the picture that bothered me but the heavy-handed manner in which it was done. As I said privately, you could have simply asked me to edit it. Instead, you edited it, gave me a warning with points, and added a derogatory comment about me to my own post. Also, when I tried talking to you about why I thought it was relevant and some of the surrounding issues of censorship on hosting platforms (including knife content), you effectively called my a liar and accused me of playing games.

That said, I'm actually sensitive to your point of view about racy or borderline content in W&C. As I said, it wasn't just the attachment issue that drove my decision to painstakingly delete 500 attachments. (I only had 625 attachments here at the time.) Those 500 attachments were all racy content and honestly, does the body type of the women involved matter? I have personally been questioning my daily activity of sharing that kind of content and have ultimately decided against it.

I actually prefer using Imgur over using the attachments that I was able to do as a Gold member.
I'll be renewing my membership, most likely early next month when a better pay comes in.

The posting limits don't matter to me at all.
I do miss the PM feature since my membership lapsed. That was handy, and worth the fee.
