Too many attachments

So far, only when I attempt to post an image. Evidently I have a 23-page list of attachments. Idk how many pages older, more prolific members may have.
I have 153 pages, but until the past couple of weeks, when I had issues with Imgur, I've only used the BF direct upload feature very occasionally, and images that I uploaded using third party sites seem to be included.

So many of my pictures are posted to different threads. Sometimes years later. Does that mean its being stored multiple times? That is an extreme waste. Once it is on the site. You should be able to repost it to another thread without using more bandwidth.

All of these pictures being lost will ruin those old threads. Why keep the threads at all.

Maybe a good place to start is deleting all the non knife content?

So many people posted here to try to save historical info. But its being lost anyway. This is just a sample of the future. Nothing is in print anymore. If the system goes down. All our accumulated knowledge will be lost forever.

On the one hand I’m willing to pay more. But think everyone should have to share the load.

But on the other hand it seems that would just put this off for a short time anyway.

Thanks for the good tines Spark Spark

Yes, that's generally how it works. Your own photos weren't always hidden when viewing your own account, but the site must have updated and that bug has now become a feature for now.

You won't see your pics in the community area, unless you view them in the "newest" and "user submitted" areas. The "community" works by other imgur users giving positive feedback (voting up or down) on posted images. Only the most highly upvoted pics make it to the "most viral" page. Lots of funny and silly pics/memes/gifs/videos are posted, along with lots of political and other nonsense that could be expected from general use on the internet. You get the good with the bad.
Sorry, oldmanwilly oldmanwilly , I forgot to include in my previous post thanking members for help. THANKS!

I still don't think any sort of hard limit is sustainable, even if mine reset today I'd be in the same situation a few years down the road.. forced to choose to save historical posts or delete in favor of new. I could see some sort of per year cap working, but any sort of hard limit per member is going to inevitably put us back here down the road.

I think this might be the best solution if it’s feasible, a yearly limit for photos/storage that resets when you renew your membership.

Whatever the solution, requiring the folks who have contributed the most here over the years and made this place what it is to delete all the content they’ve contributed can’t be the answer. I still see people talking about how they’re deleting stuff to get under the quota, before any solution has been reached, and I think that’s a huge mistake. Just my 2¢.

Hopefully whatever solution is decided upon can, at the very least, involve a fresh reset on limits, leaving existing content in place, as-is. Getting rid of old photos in the exchange is one thing, but doing the same anywhere else on the forum would be a huge loss.

If you look at the masthead, it doesn't say 'Image Hosting Site'.

It says "The Leading Edge of Knife Discussion"

For those of us that have been here for years (and years and years 🤣 ) the log jam of pictures is formidable. If new people came in they could pay for several years before reaching their limit. Probably the better business model. The older members are grumpier anyway

If you want to post pics daily though plenty of options

1. Facebook; unlimited pictures, large audience, easy posting, a user group for your specific likes

2. Instagram; unlimited pictures, large audience, lots to look at also.

3. USN V2; is back up, small but dedicated audience, easy posting.

4. Microholics; for Microtech fans, same as above

Probably more, just don't know about them.

It is Spark's site here, he makes the rules

I posted this in another thread, but I question if you could just delete all but the last 2 years worth, or maybe more, of the for sale threads, tons of photo usage in there approx 7400 pages worth, just in folders. Anyway, I went ahead and deleted the 85 I had in there

For those who want unlimited access to images...and Spark can provide a solution...be prepared to pay the freight. In the end, it's still a business and bills need to be paid.

(The mods don't get paid, so that won't cost anything extra.)

For a small fee we can increase and restore…
Can we? I bought a Gold membership yesterday after seeing that I was out of images. Hasn’t seemed to work. :(

Well my man, I cannot offer unlimited image hosting for $30 or $75 a year.
So does a platinum membership give unlimited images?

Can I get reimbursed for my worthless Gold Membership please?

The paid subscription page that you've gone to every year has what the upload quota should be for each membership level - https://www.bladeforums.com/account/upgrades
I don’t see any image limits listed…?

I don’t love the idea, but I’m willing to pay more to continue posting pics. If that’s not possible I guess I’ll start using Instagram and say farewell to you great folks. :(

Either way I really hope people are careful about what they delete however as this could seriously damage/ruin the site.

might not be relevant to a proper 'business decision'.

Appears that the most user-friendly way to delete pictures it the newest first...maybe if we all deleted our last 500-1000 pics it would really help the site!

Edit; after deleting several hundred photos I can say it's definitely a PIA, and after finishing deleting them all only a silly person would make the same mistake again. I'll stick with the 'discussion' 🤪

So I found my list of attachments. How do I delete some of them?

AFTER THIS ALERT - I discovered that I had 118 pages of ATTACHMENTS since 2017 roughly 3,000 attachments. What to do? Well of course, DELETE.
Started with the last page, obviously the very oldest and likely the least consequential attachments as most of these are old sale threads. I should have deleted photos then. ANYWAY - tried to group delete. 🤔 NOT happening - can only do one attachment at a time - AND - as someone noted - with each single delete on the last page you are brought back to the first page - 118 pages away. 🥵 NOT GOOD!

So - FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH, aka FYI - I discovered that VIEW the POST takes me to the original thread - for a sale thread that brings up multiple images at a time. I EDIT the sales thread - delete the images in that specific thread. Takes care of 4 or 5 at a time. - DON't FORGET to SAVE the edits. Then - close the thread page and I return to the correct page of attachments. Keep doing this - viewing each post - delete your attachments as you see fit. A no brainer on old sale threads but might require some consideration when the attachments are relative to a discussion post. Your call.

Something to know. After you VIEW POST and delete its images you will not see that you have done that back on the attachment page - UNLESS - you go off that page and come back. I discovered that I just go down the page, trusting that I am deleting as I go. When I'm done with a page I click back to page 1 and then return to the last page. Note that there are fewer pages then when you started as a bunch of attachments have been deleted.

Something Else to Know - Even after deleting several pages of attachments I am still NOT ALLOWED to post images. I suspect I will need to LOG OUT (which I rarely do) and then log in again with my verification in order for the changes to occur. I don't know this. I will log out later and try that.

NOPE - logging off is NOT the solution - apparently I have another 1800 images or so to delete. o_O That's another hour or 2 ...

Good luck with this mess.

I totally understand that, and I think it's reasonable to have unlimited access to images available to paid memberships only. But let's also keep in mind that many of us already have been paying, for years.

And Spark explained that he hadn't set the limitation on volume properly...leading to an overload...

You have almost 1500 images. You by yourself are using over a gigabyte of disk space.

I wouldn't say your gold membership is "worthless", you've gotten plenty of use out of it.

That the quotas weren't set properly isn't your fault, however as said previously there has always been stated limitations for image hosting with paid subscriptions. I'm not penalizing y'all for going over the quota limits because that's my fault. The quyota limits are in place now, however, and if you are over you won't be able to upload more until a better solution is in place or you delete existing images.

Just FYI, using the 'attachment' page just deleted 2023 & 2024 content. Took about 11 minutes of click, click. Still 877/500. Off to finish

Yep, I spent too much time on this forum. Thanks for the wake-up call 🤔
