Too much worry about steel types?

I try to stay within a range between VG-10 and S30/S35/XHP/204P. S90/S110, although "awesome" is somewhat reminiscent of slamming mega-pixels on sensor of a digital camera.

Mecha should be a slampoet or a rapper!

And I also am content with aus8 or something similar for light to medium-light urban use. Though ofcourse one could simply not WANT a blade that needs resharpening often or would want to carry a knife that can take all you can throw at it. Do what feels right.

I'm even simpler than the OP. I just want the knife to cut shit and have a good lock so that shit isn't my fingers.

This is my understanding, and tell me if am wrong, but the whole super steel thing as a goal of minimizing the weaknesses of adding chrome into the steal to make it stainless no? the purpose is to have great stainless properties, while still attaining proper toughness and strength at a high hardness.

Even if Cliff Stamp is very well thinking steels over on youtube, And I have no doubt in my mind that he is right, I still feel that modern steel have submitted improvements...it is a fact that humanity has not seen the current levels of steel purity and quality in known history at the very least! for that I am grateful :)
