Too much?

Please don't think I'm on your case bro cos but I'm curious as to why the saw benefits you in that situation ?
I can find plenty of wood on the floor and can easily split it with a knife to get to the dry inner or use my knife to make fuzz sticks !

Perhaps its a difference in environment. Where I often hike, most likely due to hiker population density, there isn't always a lot of nicely seasoned wood on the ground. I may have to walk a bit to find a downed tree and then I can quickly cut up a few logs with my saw and carry them back to camp. I ran out of firewood in the middle of the night one time and effortlessly sawed a big limb off of a dying tree. Saws are just such efficient cutters.

Hey theonew I hope you don't think I'm getting at ya bro cos one of the reasons I'm keen to hear your case is that Iv'e been thinking about one of the Opinel saws and just wondered if I could justify such a purchase !

You replied before my last post !!!

Do you think a folding saw is better than one of the hand chainsaw type saws ?I'm thinking that they can cut larger sections of wood !

Like this type....

I haven't used one of those, but I must admit they look really useful. I would love to try one. I usually carry an 8 inch folding Silky Saw, it weighs about 9 ounces and cuts amazingly well.

If you car camp and notice a reduction in your fuel mileage, you may being carrying to much $/#/!/*, leave the family home:) no, no that isn't right... As far as hiking, you got to carry it, you ain't movin' Pat

just for reference my EDC rig weighs in at 31lbs....every day...so a 31 lb pack aint nuthing for me for woods bumming.

and that edc rig include 7 knives of different manufacture. Endura 4 pe, delica 4 pe, al mar sere, farmer personal, blind horse batwing, sak farmer and a sog multiplier

that is a normal day at the office carry.

woods play....well one good sized fixed blade...9 inch or so Becker 9 or Blind Horse Clydesdale, blind horse workhorse, farmer personal, sak farmer and endura 4 pe. and the leatherman wave.

and i dont think i carry to many....i think i carry just enough.

Pitdog,

I have one of those pocket chainsaws and used it for about ten years. It can be wrapped around a 10" log and you'll eventually get through it. Needless to say, it is much quicker on smaller stuff.

Eventually the pocket chainsaw dulled and became pretty ineffective. I need to re-sharpen it. However, in the meantime I discovered Silky saws (HERE---thanks guys!). I like the Super Accel 210 well enough that I haven't gotten around to sharpening the pocket chainsaw.
