Too picky?

is that any person/or business, has the right to deal with whomever they choose.
Correct. Noone is obligated to do business with another, or obligated to provide explanation.
The refund in full of the OP's funds was clear indication that he should move on and look elsewhere.
This thread being started in and of itself answers the OP's original question in the title. It need not have been started, at least it the context that it was.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't....

I wish him well...just saying -- try staying in business without communicating with customers.

I have inquired with Neil a couple of times through the years . I have always received a response . I think he just didn't communicate with you. So you assume he doesn't communicate with anyone . I understand you may be put off by it but he has a pretty big following . He shows up at the Knife Shows in my area and has been around a long time .

Neil's one of the top Purveyors and has a great reputation as a Gentleman, too.

All of you second guessing and ASSuming why, probably aren't in any kind of retail business dealing with what could amount to hundreds of sales/requests on a daily basis.

If every customer requested each transaction be hand picked and inspected....I know folks that sell firearms get additional $$$'s for such.....any profit would be nonexistent, especially on a close out item.

As for TNK/Neil going out of business, dream on! As for all of you disgruntled folks who think the OP got a raw deal, that's Neil's prerogative and I highly doubt any of you have ever done business with him or even knew of TNK before this post.

Y'all have a great day![emoji631]

I am traveling right now so I don't have the ability to reply in full detail. As I explained to you "fully and completely" by responding to you in the comment section of your order (which is the very place that you left your comment regarding a hand inspection) this knife did not come anywhere close to meeting your expectations. This is a "two hand opener stiff slip joint" and would not have been something that you would've been happy with based on your request.

So before you spread stories and tell lies about me that I didn't reply to you please recheck both your accounts plus your email where these comments were also sent.

The dealer offered no explanation -- that's what makes his action so puzzling.

And he's still selling the item. Does that mean all of them have issues?

Or that he doesn't care to deal with what he considers a picky customer?

THE DEALER DID OFFER AN EXPLANATION.

FYI.

08/10/2015 10:31:41 True Updated HI and thanks for the order. This knife is not going to suit you.
From the description you can see that this is a "2 handed" opener - there is a 2 step motion as with most slip joints.
So I will go ahead and cancel this order and refund your paypal.
Sorry it did not work out.
Regards, Neil

What's to tell? He didn't want to bother being sure the knife was centered and opened and closed properly, or he didn't want to deal with a customer to whom those kinds of things are important.

What's to tell, Happy Daddy? Let's start with the OTHER side to this STORY...the one that the OP failed to disclose, or conveniently didn't notice?

We all make the mistake, of occasionally making rash judgments; before getting all of the facts. Regardless- this negative thread(against Neil/TNK Knives), should never have been started in the first place! :thumbdn:

Well, as usual we have the "rest of the story". The OP never did say what knife it was - that would have been a big key >> a slip joint > wow.
Oh, and a reason was sent..................hmm.
And the OP starts a thread within hours of the same day. Too picky? One can decide. Starting a thread and leaving out key points - Yes .
Poor form if you ask me.

also, I never bought anything from Neil. But, I would have no issue doing so in the future.

Perhaps I found someone else to add to my ignore list......................funny how that happens concerning the OP(s) in these type of threads

Neil, thank you for your response. Of course I absolutely apologize if you meant to include an explanation with the refund.

But I just checked again and all that I find is my note to you:

Note:
Please hand inspect for good blade centering and smooth opening AND closing -- thanks. Please do NOT complete order if knife has any issues. Thank you!

I watched a guy comb through countless Benchmade 710's (the regular D2 version) at a bricks and mortar knife store near me once; he kept complaining about things that really didn't have much effect on function and was being crazy nit picky...

The clerk was getting pissed off because this guy (customer) was wasting a huge amount of his time over perceived issues that would have ultimately originated at the Benchmade factory; not the knife dealer. We're talking an hour plus weeding through every 710 they had at the store; probably 15-20 of em easily.

In that time I had toured the entire store as well as scooped up a few goodies to take home.

Unless it's at the CRK or Strider price point I think people need to relax a bit about knife fit and finish...

As with any mass produced product purchased online I do not think it's fair to expect a re-seller to hand inspect ever one that goes out with a magnifying glass. That's the job of QC at the respective factories that produce these goods. Plus, there's a huge amount of ambiguity in terms of what's passable to some folks versus a no-go to others.

I see this as being a royal pain in the arse for any knife dealer as there's too much subjectivity.
