Yep, getting old has it's troubles, but lately I've been plagued with allergies that I've never had, ending up with a nagging cough from post nasal drip so it made it hard to get to sleep at night. Well a week ago today my wife and I went out and about and ended up at Panera's for lunch. I was beat tired from no sleep the night before and my head was really out of it, so I felt like a zombie walking towards the restaurant. The day was beautiful here but the winds were high and as I tugged my cap down on my head and angled my head into the wind so it wouldn't blow off, I mistook the height of the curb, which turned out to be much higher than a regular curb...in my defense...
and down I went, BLAM left foot didn't rise high enough to clear the curb edge and so I tripped. As I said my head was quite groggy from lack of sleep so during the fall I wondered what was happening??? then it hit me...well I hit it, the pavement was coarse, dug into my left hand, smashed my left knee flat into the pavement and my right hand palm took the other half of my weight before I knew enough to try and roll with the fall.
My knee still a bit tender, my left hand is fine, the right wrist I thought at first it might be broken, but no swelling or bruising, just quite tender and rotation was limited. I told my wife lets just go home as I was in no mood to try and sit for lunch there, home and some ice was the ticket.
Move ahead now a week later, my right wrist is still tender but only at times when I try to apply pressure on the corner of the palm or when I press down with my fingers which drives downward into my wrist, but, I am gaining mobility back, fortunately I am able to grip and lift with it fine, that's a good thing.
Now, the point of this thread isn't to gain sympathy, but to mention about my left wrist, what I did not notice until a few days afterwards was that my watch strap, very nicely padded deBeer 22mm leather, had taken some punishment on one side. If it wasn't for that strap, my left wrist bone and area would have been banged up/scraped up a lot more than it had. Just some scraping along the side of my pinky was about it there.
So, I almost didn't wear my watch that day but when I go out I do like to wear it, it's a nice watch
and now I'm glad I did. Here's some photos of my old strap

and my new strap arrived today and in place, watch is resting on a small table mount for when I am not wearing it, one I made from a piece of walnut and the base of oak and three small bamboo pegs in a triangle layout to hold the watch in place.

Now I work leather, but not this fine of sewing nor with padding inside, but the volumne they make has the price very reasonable around $16, and it's well made and worth it, as my old strap lasted several years already and would have gone more if I hadn't taken the tumble, but I'm glad it was there to protect as well as look nice
