Took my M-43 out for some brush chopping last week.

I'll leave it at Nutn is better than Wranglerstar by a small margin.

Anyways, back to the m-43! When I used a two handed grip it became more of an axe-chop than the snapcut, the only reason I did it is because it chopped as well (if not a little bit better) and relieved fatigue overall due to mine being nearly 40 oz and 18" long. Of course the Samsher-Mk. 1 that I picked up a month or two back does just as well one handed. I might dare to say that it's possibly my best chopping khukuri right now, and it only weighs 25 oz.

There is good and bad concerning nutnfancy. His reviews never swayed me toward any blade, I buy and use what I like.

I have never used 2 hands on any khukuri. like ndog says, hard to get the velocity needed with 2 hands, and I also wonder how would you do a "snap" chop with 2 hands???

I could see a two hand hold occasionally if I was gonna fight with one, which I'm not. EVER.

For chopping, two hands is just girlyman. Something that happens when you get tired or your not in shape to be swinging a kukri in the first place. Not to criticize, I shamefully admit it's happened to me and I'm not nearly the man I used to be.

When you ponder going two hands, that's a good indication it's time for some lemonade and maybe tv cartoons for a bit.

I can see going two-handed if it's a longer job & the primary arm's getting tired.
Lose the snap cut, but gain longevity.

You then lose effectiveness, safety, and likely an appendage you may want to keep. Like Bawanna said, best to take a break, and then resume.

Hmmm.

I'm seeing it as a bigger log (4-6 inches), or several, that my arm may give out on one-handed.
IF, and I emphasize IF, I need to finish the job, I may lose individual stroke effectiveness by going to two hands, but I don't see that it HAS to be safety issue.

Position carefully, pay attention, etc.

NOT advocating intentionally or regularly pushing on too far if tired, or ALWAYS using it two-handed.
Just seeing a place for it, on a bigger blade & a bigger job.

He He:thumbup: When I tried it Darth it was for much the same reason. I was tired and almost through the log and didnt want to stop. I should have tho. I had been swinging a big 20"AK and it was very noticeable that it took more energy with both hands. It does work and does relieve your tired arm but much less efficient overall at least that was my experience.

Just wasnt worth the extra energy. I could have finished at the same time taking a short rest. Especially for felling.

Coulda hired an itinerant beaver to handle that, too.

All sorts & kinds of options. :)

I'm a wussbag and proud:thumbup: that 40 oz was just getting to my one poor arm. Couldn't help it, 'twas just so tempting.

Five judiciously-placed shots from your Mosin woulda weakened it enough to bust in two over your knee.
Think CREATIVE! Save energy.

The smart part would have been the use of an axe for the 12" seasoned oak, but me and my bright ideas for testing the m43 said otherwise.

That was just a test chop off between 20" CAK, regular AK, and Samsher there. Normally I use a Stihl 362 and dont even crack a sweat:D M43 would have done very well on that i suppose.

I don't think I'd go quite 12 inches in oak with a khukuri.
That's silly.
11.5, tops.

Lol! It was a dumb idea but i wanted to test it to it's full capability. It was a dead-standing oak long seasoned. Gave me a run for my money, but if it helps, I was smart enough use a saw for the rest of it.

Darth: Is that a Purna (Padam?) Dui Chirra in your avatar? That is one sweet looking blade. How does that compare to your M43? They seem similar weight and shape as M43. Maybe some drop difference and a bit of length but that one in your avatar is super-sexy:thumbup:

jdk1, I tried to send you an email but it must be disabled. Please click on my user name and send me an email, if you're willing.

Bawanna was right, it was a setting. If you didn't receive my email, send me another.

Ayuh! That's me Purna Dui Chirra. The drop is for sure greater on the Dui Chirra. This one racks in at 32 oz, right between Thamar's superlight ones and a M43. It chops pretty darn good! I believe the one in my avatar is something like 17.75".

In the name of all that is good and holy, please don't be under the impression he knows what he's doing. IMHO he looked like a maniac trying to break into a crackhouse during that review.

HA HA :D To be fair... in that video Nutn did explain the reason he was using it 2 handed, was b/c of a hurt shoulder. Not from swinging the M-43, but from a previous injury before making the video. Of course his 1 handed swings kind of sucked too, but khuks are not his primary style of knife either.

For me, I've been using the CS khukalike for years as my primary knife, so it did not feel alien to me at all when I transitioned to a bonafide, genuine, real, handmade khukuri.
