Top 5 favorite knife acquusitions for 2017

Spyderco Mantra 1, DF2 in ZDP-189, PM2 in M4(traded it like an idiot). That's all I got for a favorites list, most of my other acquisitions didn't impress me.

The Crux is on my list to get.

I only bought four knives this year.

A Kershaw Emerson Cqc4kxl (actually tested it to destruction, reprofiled the blade, and carry it as a beater)

A damascus scalpel from Phillip Patton (use it nearly daily for art projects)

A custom 7" fighter from CMFTW (awesome)

and a ringed "EDC" small fixed blade from Argus Knives.

I love them all.

I bought 14 knives this year, but only kept 4 of them:
  1. Emerson CQC-7V
  2. Spyderco Military
  3. Grayman Satu
  4. Cold Steel Voyager Vaquero XL
I don't have the other two handy, but the 7V is my EDC and the Millie has been my "at-home EDC" since I got it.

This year's notable keepers:
  • Fantoni HB 01. Wish I'd gotten the HB 03 for practicality, but this knife is amazing anyway. Air-hockey-like action, almost drop-shut, on enormous paper-thin bronze washers.
  • Rikeknife 1504A. So many dazzling little precise details. Very ergonomic user. Got it at clearance prices, as Rike moves towards making integrals only. Needed lock bar tension adjustment for sufficient detent.
  • ZT 0562BLK all-black DLC sprint run in 20CV, with custom suingab contoured and polished black G10 scale, and custom detent ramp by yours truly. Better action than an 0562CF from a couple years ago.

The Crux took away my desire for the large CRK. Sweet knife.

2017 has been a mid-range spyderco-focusing year. I bought perhaps 7 or 8 folders in total, and here are my top 5 purchases in the year:

- KW exclusive spyderco military s90v ti/cf;
- KW exclusive spyderco military 204p green g10;
- Spyderco fluted titanium military;
- DLT m390 red g10 pm2;
- ZT 0630;

The Crux took away my desire for the large CRK. Sweet knife.

Funny that you mention that. Lately, I have been where I shouldn't be:oops:(I say that because I really don't need a $300+ knife), The CRK sub-forum. THEN, I really crossed the line, I checked out Nick Shabazz's videos on the large 21. Yeah, it's easy to see the want for a large 21 is strong. I blame my Mantra for being a bad influence:D!

Protech TR4 (gift for my dad) This might be my top purchase because it wasnt for me. Pops had been eyballing a few different autos. I told him to check out Protech’s stuff. He told me he liked the look of the TR4 but that they were too expensive. He was going to get a SOG. I couldnt let that happen. He was extremely happy yesterday when I gave it to him. It is definately his nicest knife. To date the highest end knife he had was an orange spyderco endura and an S30V Blur. He is slowly becoming a Knife Knut

For me...

Spyderco Military KW S90V Cf/Ti (x2 and by far my top purchase for myself)

Lefty Spyderco Military (still wrapped and under the tree, but I love the Military and I am a lefty so this is a no brainer)

Gec 81 Bull moose (first traditional in years)

There is one spot open! I guess I have 5 days left to make another aquisition!

Giant Mouse GM3
Southern Grind (Copper) Spider Monkey
Guardian 3 Sheepsfoot (3D handle)
Stuart Davenport EDC
Bark River Fix River LT
(I couldn't easily pick a favorite of those three fixed blades; so I listed them all... not a big deal because my folder list was small, despite my best efforts to only buy knives I was confident I'd like.
Honorable mentions:
Spyderco Mantra2- even though I doubled the cost to turn it into something I love
GEC 48 Weasel - admittedly, I like the look of my Northwoods Hawthorne Jack a lot more; but it's the GEC version that gets the pocket time. )
