Top 5 favorite knife acquusitions for 2017

You actually own that knife? I found its ad abit corny. How do you sharpen the tungsten carbide? I thought the knife looked WAY too thick.

I know the Clemente is a folder, but I thought this looked more promising than Sandrin’s fixed blades when it comes to fixed blades.

Also Sandrin’s 30 day warranty I consider an insult for anknife at that price.

I get where you are coming from with regards to sharpening, aesthetics, and warranty. I have been saving for a high end knife for a year and a half, and I researched this knife for months (as well as Rockstead, Shiro, and a few others). I decided on this one for the sheer level of innovation. Rockstead was a close second.

With regards to sharpening, I have diamond lapidary belts (should be fine for 71HRC, they are designed for much harder materials) that I will use to put a convex edge on when it gets dull.

With regards to aesthetics, I agree that the handle is quite thick, and the blade shape doesn't quite flow with the handle shape. I bought it purely for the tech specs though, and in a technical sense, this knife more than excels. I have to be realistic though, Rockstead wins easily in the looks department.

Lastly, with regards to warranty, I think it is very smart to doubt a 30 day warranty. However, I did my research, and spoke with a few representatives (extremely polite people to talk to might I add), and considering all factors I see no reason for this knife to come close to failing. I might be crazy for this, but time will tell.

Honestly, this knife is so crazy (both look and innovation wise) that I think it will be fun to use and experiment with different sharpening techniques.

Once I figure out how to post pictures here I will put some up.

Please let us know how it goes. I think the idea of tungsten carbide blades is interesting. I just feel like a company that will charge you 1500$ for a “super well made high tech knife” and then tell you the warranty is only good for 30 days is insulting its customers.

Btw go to this thread and read post #11. It will tell you the easiest way to post pics that will work every time.

1) TAD Hawk, by a long shot;
2) Fox Terzuola 525Ti; and
3) Boker Smith SD3, very recent acquisition so I'm probably just in the honeymoon phase, but, so far it is a homerun.
Nice choices! Been wondering about the Fox 525 series for a while. I'd love to hear a serious review.

In no particular order:

1. Spyderco Native 5 LW
2. Spyderco Police 4
3. Spyderco Pacific Salt Serrated
4. Spyderco Street Beat Micarta
5. Mora Kansbol

I bought a lot of knives this year, but these are probably my favorite folders of the bunch:

'17 was a tough year, but all in all everything always worked out and turns out it was a really good year for knife acquisitions.

The SHF my wife bought me for our wedding, and the pair of C&C Buck 110's she got for my birthday, they take the cake, and are hands down top 3.

The next 2 would be a damasteel Trey Preslar edc and a Fox European hunter push knife.

BM 531bk and C&C blue Buck 722 would round out the top 5 folders for their thin profiles and light ease of carry

For fixed, a Ka-Bar full fighting "Army" knife, and a pair of C&C 5160 Bucks; 120 & 118: would finish off the top 5 fixed blades.

Excited to see what '18 has in store.

Lot of nice knives out there, this is what I bought:

Busse Dog Soldier and Military Over Run DS8

Spyderco K390 Police 4

Knifeworks Spyderco S90V Ti CF Military

ZT 562 Orange/Black

It was easier to pick one than JUST five!!!
  • Police4 K390... Definitely my favorite knife of the year.
  • 0452Ti... Didn't think I'd like the "heavier" version better, but the added contouring and milled out Ti feels awesome.
  • 0392BLK... DLC nirvana
  • Bugout 535... After adding CF scales I think this is one of the best EDC knives out there. The 535-1 is going to be amazing.
  • Delica4 Pakkawood... Not sure how it lands in my pocket almost everyday for the office but I love it!
