For me based on utility that fits my life style and a design that appeals to me:

1. Benchmade - alleged QC issues aside
2. CRK - basic excellence
3. ZT - lot of value for the money
4. Spyderco- well made quality
5. Lionsteel- the Italian made stuff
Ditto

Olamic - Creativity / Style
Reate - Action / Consitant Quality
ZT - Action / Value
Spyderco - Practicality / Ergos
CKF - Quality / Action

Although some are on par with others in certain areas. So it was kind of a "What first comes to mind"

1. Chris Reeve
2. Hinderer
3. Spyderco
4. Benchmade
5. Giant Mouse

Runner up: ZT

Currently, aside from SAKs and Leathermans all the folders I own come from the above. It’s almost like I might finally be honing in on what I really like! :D

From strictly a production standpoint.
In order:

1. CRK - The best of the best (quality, design, warranty, tolerances)
2. Hinderer - Well built knives period.
3. GEC - No production slipjoint company comes close to their quality and value.
4. Benchmade - Would be higher on my list but QC issues force you to find a "good one" (excellent warranty).
5. Spyderco - Best bang for your buck and a plethora of designs (warranty lacking IMO).

Limiting myself to knives and brands I have owned and used as I don't feel I have enough experience with others to say and no order at this time

1. Buck
2. Queen
3. Spyderco
4. LionSteel
5. Viper

Of what I own;
1. GEC
2. Spyderco &
3. Microtech
are the most plentiful, while
4. Olamic &
5. Protech
round out the remaining top spots.

The order of this list is in no way a reflection of my personal feelings about the business practices of each individual company but only a personal impression of their products and service gained consistently through multiple interactions. I generally know what I'm getting from these people will be reliably good.

In no particular order
Busse
Adventure Sworn
Carother’s
Spyderco
Hinderer

Gec, Fiddleback Forge and Lt Wright get honorable mention. These companies probably make up 95% of my collection/users.

Wow, from looking at others lists...there are a lot of fine knife companies to choose from.

Benchmade- Love their designs and quality
Spyderco- large selection, high quality, excellent value
WE- Designs and quality
Buck- outstanding value at the price
ZT- Excellent fit and finish, sturdy build quality

This list isn’t in any particular order

In no order:

Kershaw
Benchmade
Helle
CRKT
Those are what I own most of, and carry most often.

I'm gonna give my fifth pick to Hinderer. I don't own any, but I've been drooling over your XM-18s for some time.

As far as customer service, making knives with the steel I want and making useful shaped blades and nice pivots and locks.
I would have to say there is Spyderco . . . and then there is everybody else.
