Since this forum persists on making lifers outta us- What are 5 knives that every knife user must absolutely have in at least one point of their knifing lifetime?

Manix
Griptilian
Victorinox
Leatherman Wave/Ti
Busse FSH

I will second a Victorinox... any model...

Microtech knife again any model...

Benchmade balisong doesn't fit some knife guys but it is just such a nice knife! Even if you don't normally own a balisong try it at least one time!

Chris Reeves Sebenza...Im still working on getting mine, lol

Any knife in D2 steel!!!

Sebenza, for sure

Busse Battle Mistress in some form (waiting on mine now) if you don't like it you shouldn't have too much trouble getting rid of it...

just about anything Victorinox is worth having... i like the 'Champ and Compact... looking at Alox stuff now

Spyderco Delica, this is just a great little knife, the flexibility of the clip on the newest model is really nice

i can't live without my Leatherman Charge or a Wave, but the way some of you guys talk about the Busse Game Warden, it seems it should be on here somewhere

Busse FSH, a Randall, Spyderco Delica, a SAK, and a Dozier- oh,yeah, and a Buck 110, and a BM 710, and a ....

Sorry- too many knives are becoming "classics" these days!

"These are the good old days!"

A K-Bar
A Leatherman
A Spyderco and/or Benchmade
Any Swiss Army Knife (not from China)
And something from the "sharpened crowbar" sector,
(ie Busse, Swamp Rat, Scrapyard, Strider, BK&T etc.)

I only buy Spyderco, but I have been very curious about them Strider knives for quite a while now;)

Leatherman Charge XTi
A fixed blade (I own a CRK Shadow III)
Chris Reeve Knives large Classic Sebenza
Microtech Scarab (double edge)
Spyderco Manix

Can I step in with something that's been bothering me?

The knife makers name is Chris Reeve, not Chris Reeves.

Ugh.

Knives:
1, Bump/Chive
2, Mnandi/Sebbie
3, Randall 1/any other
4, Fred Perrin LaGriffe/SpydercoFB04
5, MT Mini Socom/Elite

Companies would

In no particular order:
  • A perfectly executed custom folder with a non-obvious lock (my choice would be a Scott Sawby Woodcock)
  • A CRK sebenza limited edition wood
  • Victorinox SwissChamp
  • Randall Model 14
  • CRK one piece knife (my choice would be a Shadow IV)

Folders from when I first got into knives that I've drooled over a time or two, bought and then sold (regretfully) or still have and love.

1) Original 1977 Gerber Paul Knife in white micarta scales w/case

2) Original BenchMark Rolox Knife w/stag scales

3) Original Gerber Folding Slimline Sportsman knife

4) Original Spyderco Black Micarta Jess Horn folder

5) Orininal Case 3.5 BlackHorn Folder in olive green. (one of their super 'click and clean' knives)

There are no "must haves" for every knife collector.

Sure, we're not going to create a rule book for people to join a secret society. It was just meant to bring out what experienced knife-people think others should at least try because their experiences with the knives has been so excellente.

Buck 110
Victorinox of any pattern
Leatherman of any pattern
Stockman with carbon steel blades
K-Bar or Pilot's survival knife

I have my "must haves", but they are not going to be the same, necesarily as anyone elses. My must haves are Sebenzas, a Scott Cook Lochsa ( I have one on order, and will be ready Jan. 2008.), a Kevin Wilkins Ghost Dog Pup, a Shane Sibert "Pock Rocket", something from Allen Elishewitz, and matching Rock Lobsters from Jens Anso. These are MY must haves.

BM Mini-AFCK
BM-850
CR Mnandi
Leon Pittman Custom Slip-joint-Folder
Murray Sterling Custom- 2-Blade-One-Hand-folder

Leatherman Super Tool, or any of its updated versions
Leatherman Micra
Spyderco Delica
Victorinox Swisschamp
Vic Tinker

Although I own others, these are the ones I carry and use most because they are versatile, reliable and cheap.

1.) Buck 110
2.) Vic Tinker
3.) Case Trapper
4.) Spyderco Delica/Endura
5.) Chris Reeve Sebenza

Sebenza
at least 1 Buck 110 in everyones lifetime is a must.
some sort of SAK
A spyderco endura/delica

the last one is tough, there are way too many knives to choose from!
