Depending on mood, task and what I'm wearing...

1. Kershaw/Emerson CQC-7 Tanto
2. BM Mini-Grip
3. Spydy Delica
4. Kershaw Leek
5. Kershaw Cryo

I have only 4 for now, so the list goes like this: Microtech Metalmark, Benchmade Contego M390, CRK Umnumzaan and Benchmade Contego M4.
Noticed you have both steel versions of bm 810. Any opinions on them? I have the m4. Have you got much use out of either of them? Per cpm the 390 is up posed to have better edge retention but the m4 is significantly tougher.

1 Spyderco Superleaf
2. Spyderco Tuff
3. Spyderco Southard
4. Spyderco Manix 2 Sprint Cru wear
5. Spyderco P'kal

Hmm... Top 5?

-Strider SNG
-XHP Para 2
-204P Para 2
-M390 Military
-S30V Military

Not to mention the few secondary blades I sometimes rotate.

On me almost every day is an alox pioneer, victorinox classic, and a spyderco military. Perfect combo for me that covers all the bases on a normal day. Occasionally I'll swap the military for a spyderco southard or domino just to enjoy those knives as well.

Actually, I would strongly recommend against buying ANY knife half serrated. Either go full or none IMO. Half serrated knives suck (IMO, of course...) because there's not enough serrations to be usable for their function, and there's not enough non serrated blade to fulfill it's function either. It's like a knife that tries really REALLY hard to do both things (cut fibrous tough material with the serrations and slice other stuff cleanly with the plain edge) but doesn't do either function worth a damn. When I see a half serrated knife I instantly think "this guy doesn't know a damned thing about knives", or "nice knife Bubba Joe Billy Bob Clampett".

<sarcasm>That is all just "IMO" of course. It is absolutely not based on years and years of usage, and trial and error, and research, and facts about how blades work and stuff or anything. Also IMO, you should cut things with the edge of the knife instead of the spine  .....</sarcasm>
.

When I read a guy making statements like above and then covering his butt with *IMO* I just smile and kinda sorta roll my eyes. ;-l Aaaaanyway.

I used to not care much for serrations. That is, until I learned how to handle a knife. Of course I don't back any of these opinions up with years and years of knife using experience either. ;-) I mean heck, Ernie Emerson "somewhat" knows his way around a knife and I'm sure you know what he says about serrations. If not you can google it. It would be funny to see you call Ernie Bubba Joe etc. because he has serrations.

Anyway. Having said all that. I used to "somewhat" feel that way ......not even close to the extent you take it though. The knife I am speaking of which would be a super addition to the OP is the CQC7 with 1 5/16" of serrations along with an inch and three quarter of plain edge. And it is a tanto to boot. Never thought in a million years a knife with those specs could become a focal point of an edc. But it can. And it does. And it makes me laugh because I know what I thought at first. So try to not be sooo one sided in "your opinion" of a particular setup. You could scare someone away just because they would be afraid you would call them Bubba or think "they don't know anything about knives " and I know a thing or two about knives so that kind of shoots that down that someone that carries a partly serrated piece doesn't know what they're doing with a knife. Back to my coffee. :-)

Hey all,

I currently rotate between a Buck Spitfire, Kershaw Emerson, CRKT m-16, and Spyderco Delica 4 FRN. What is another knife I could add that would round out my collection? I have a fondness for tanto blades, and prefer a half serration, but am open to all suggestions. Have been mowing over a Cold Steel Voyageur, an M-21, and a something from Zero Tolerance (but don't have the money really.) And.....GO!

Hey *Wildenout*. I responded in this thread already but it was a knee-jerk response type of post to Anteater. I don't know if you read his "opinion" and somewhat snarky response in the way he responded to you.

But you may want to take a look at the CQC-7BW from Emerson Knives. That is the Black/Partially Serrated/Tanto version. Please do yourself a favor and don't listen to all the Emerson haters here. I did. It cost me years of never having an Emerson in my pocket. That taught me a valuable knife lesson.

I carry and own "mostly" stout folders, some are actually "overbuilt".... but not everyone. The serrations from DPx Gear that can be had on their HEST model and/or the T3 Triple Black are fabulous serrations and are extremely well put together knives. RYP knows what he's doing and he has great friends with Lion Steel producing his knives.

That takes me to the CQC -7BW. Go over to the Emerson sub forum and ask about " The 7" or use the search feature. It has been stated by very well respected people in the knife community that the CQC-7 was/is the knife that started all the "tactical knife" madness.

I never owned a tanto, I felt I never had the use for one. My mistake. Big mistake. Utility wise (for me at least) it tales care of business and the serrations Ernie puts together are Incredible and Very Easy To Sharpen.

Just do yourself a huge favor. Grab yourself a 7 / Tanto/ Partial Serrations and Be Done With It. But I warn you. I was told this too and I didn't believe it....if you get one Emerson chances are very good you will get another and another etc. Another good serrated Emerson (from what I have read) is the Commander. Good luck in whatever you choose. :-)

I switch around a lot, today alone I went through 4 modern folders (not counting multitools, SAKs, or traditionals). For the past week or so, these are the five I've been using the most:

-ZT 0770CF
-ZT 0801
-ZT 0550
-Emerson Persian
-Large Sebenza 21

I am an enigma. Shrouded in mystery. Wrapped in riddles. (Or however that stupid saying goes!)

My EDC for the past few days:

Sometimes partial serrations can be a hoot!

But mostly, not. IMO, of course. Did you miss that my entire post was my opinion, and that what I thought when I saw partial serrations was my opinion as well? (And a little stereotypical, I have to admit.) I wasn't covering my arse by saying IMO. No need to. It was my opinion! I even gave clear and concise reasoning for my opinion.

I stand by what I said. It is MY OPINION that knives with partially serrated blades suck at both functions equally. I go full or none at all. Whatever you do, and whatever your opinion is, is up to you, Bubba.

I like how you flipped my username around and called me Anteater! That was funny! Mind if I call you Mr. steel pocket pool? That would be funny too! But I won't, because I'm too much of a gentleman!

And you know what? You don't have to take my opinion into consideration at all, or even read it. This is America, you have that right. You also have the right to disagree. And I, in turn, have the right to disagree right back..... Aaaaand round and round it goes.

I've said my piece on the matter. I hope you have too? Agree to disagree? Peace.

Top five users current that I could be caught with in my pocket at any time these days are
One or more of either:

1-Spyderco Dyad Jr. in black FRN

2-Great Eastern Cutlery STR-EK

3-Cold Steel Med. Trail Guide in carbon steel

4-SAK mini champ alox

5-Cold Steel mini AK-47 Triad

ZT0560CBCF
ZT0770CF
Kershaw Leek
Spyderco UKPK
SAK Pioneer

But I mostly carry my Lefty Norseman :)

At some point you'll end up with one of these. Chris Reeve Sebenza. The best of the best in many areas.

I would not have believe it 'til I tried one. I just got a lefty one and it doesn't leave my pocket.

I neglected to mention that I also have a Kershaw Cryo II blackwash! It's probably my favorite, so I am shocked that I forgot to say that. Thank you all for the suggestions! I am going to take some time and investigate everyone's suggestions before making another investment.

Pretty easy to list my Top 5 since that is about all I carry on a regular basis.
(1) ZT 0770CF
(2) Spyderco Native 5
(3) GEC #42 Missouri Trapper (jigged bone)
(4) Victorinox Adventurer
(5) Spyderco Delica and sometimes the Cold Steel Tuff Lite

I recommend all of these knives. I don't care for partially serrated knives. I have a couple fully serrated folders that seldom get used. The Spydie Endura is one of those. The GEC is a large slip joint and not for everyone size-wise. I keep it in a leather pocket slip/sleeve so it doesn't get all banged up on coins and keys (pocket trash).

Not a fan of half serrations. I use my blades frequently at work on cardboard, zip ties, packaging plastic, bail bindings, etc. In those applications, a plain edge has been better for me than half serrations (which I used for about a year and a half). For people doing a lot of rope cutting and such, I could certainly understand full serrations. Half serrations seem most suited to tactical application where they would increase tissue devastation after a stab.

As far as the rotation goes, I only rotate 3:

1. Zero Tolerance 0566. My most carried blade, by far. It gets used a lot, and I love it. I had to put a little extra work in with the Sharpmaker to correct deformation near the edge that resulted from an impact with concrete. It was quicker and easier than I thought it would be given the reputation of Elmax. My experience with this steel has been great.

2. ZT 0550.

3. Spyderco Manix 2 G-10 in CPM S30V.

All 3 are fantastic working blades.
