Several times i have had to "use" my knife to protect myself. 2 times i have slashe a person attacking me and once i stabbed someone. I was however employed by NYPD at the time and fighting against larger opponents trying to get my gun from me or trying to assault me with a weapon of their own. the knife was easier to get to than my oc spray

edit by stabbed i mean in the leg and after a few stitches they were just fine to get locked up.. charged with resisting arrest and attempted murder of a police officer..i think he plead out to 5 yrs or some garbage.. it was 10 years ago+
So there is a report of this that could be provided.

That's cool, but I've read far too many made up action hero stories to take anyone's word for it.

Yeah anyone who has actually been in a life or death situation doesn't feel heroic.. I live with night terrors and panic attacks from 9/11 being shot at and being stabbed in the back (literally) during a DV call (the wife stabbed me in the pelvis/lower back while we were arresting her husband for beating her for the 12th time) .. chipped my pelvis it went so deep. there are things im proud of however.. delivering a baby and saving 2 people with cpr.. If i were to call anyone a hero it would be my father he was a fire chief and served 25 yrs and saved multiple people.

I am not happy or proud to have had to stab someone in fact i felt terrible.. i was scared i hit their femoral artery and they would die .. all i could think about was losing my job and going to jail and being unable to support my family.. people need to remember that their actions have consequences i would never call myself a hero.. just some guy who did his job as good as he could and took care of his family .. im just glad i got out alive and (mostly) sane.. i lost alot of friends on this job and i live my life everyday for them.

on a lighter note there was a BF member who lives in europe and took a picture of me working in the nyc subways on a terrorism detail after 9/11 while on a trip to ny ...he actually found me by reading my posts one day i was talking about my tattoos and he asked me in a pm and sent me the pic.. small world huh.. It was nice seeing as i only have a few pics of myself in uniform (graduation and few holding my son as an infant and some with my wife at an event)

Grew up in Bklyn & Manhattan......1959 - 2000. And I can say any policeman earned every dime they made....the hard way.
You get a HUGE  from me.
Nothing easy about law enforcement there.
I'm in Central NJ now.......it's a bit of an easier job here.

I used to work in brooklyn north brownsville the 73pct.. fun times.. not really :)

Not even a little bit of fun!
Did a ton of refrigeration work in East New York.......down Utica Ave and Winthrop St. I was sitting in my truck at 5:30 in the morning waiting for a crane. Someone drove by and felt like taking a shot at me. They put a 22 round through one of the windows of the truck.
I think it was the 72 Precinct, cop that came asked if I was hurt, nope. He more or less told me to have a nice day.
Business as usual in E New York. Not fun at all!

I've never been to NYC, I think I'd get a panic attack. From what I've seen the most popular tactical knife used in America today is the standard kitchen knife from a dollar store.

How true! Kitchen knives are the number 1 tactical edged weapons!
And a Delica will get you jammed up in NYC.
Ugh

Who feels more nervous, a cop in a bad neighbourhood, or a criminal around a bunch of cops?

if the cop is on a footpost solo with no backup? definitely the cop. I worked in brownsville brooklyn surrounded by cripps and bloods and im a white irish guy with a shaved head and 67 tattoos. I never felt safe and judging by my experiences i had every right to be. Most criminals (the actual bad ones) would sit and chat with me about the yankees or the mets all the time like i was their best friend... only the stupid ones freak out

As usual it is the young inexperienced kids who are going to cause all the trouble. Even look at the gang murder statistics. It's almost all under 25s when it comes to senseless murder. I will never understand it when I first moved to Canada that type of thing barely existed.

It is as if American gang culture got imported here by a bunch of wannabes trying to prove themselves. They say that is how gang culture spread from New York and LA. Honestly I think that is BS though and that there have always been gangs, rather what spread was the hip hop mannerisms and along with that an increase in violence.

Good for good cops doing good jobs. We need more that help the communities they serve. There is always going to be a next bad guy to take the previous one's place. To me a good officer is there to stop violence first.

This is all just my opinion of course.

In no particular order:

- One of my "tactical" custom kitchen knives
- Machete
- Talwar or Vaquero

Topic is knives, not stories.
Stay on topic.
