Top Choice For Smaller EDC ?

Well in the world of Spyderco I have decided on either the Native 5 or Sage 4. But there are other manufacturers that I may consider as well.

Both good options. One quick suggestion - if you're partial to titanium framelocks, take a look at the Sage 2. I had that and a small Sebenza and gave up the Sebenza in favor of the Sage 2. It's more ergonomic, has higher hardness blade steel and has the titanium handle that so many of us cravve.

CF Chaparral would be my choice. It's what I carry when I go into areas with a 3" blade limit. It's featherweight, slices like a demon, and feels great in my hand.

I had the Sage 2 for a while and I found it rather plain Jane and almost boring. It was well-built , just not my cup of tea. That is the only Sage that i am not crazy about. All the other Sage knives I like.

As a matter of fact , the Sage 1 is currently seducing me online. I may have to add to the list with the N5 and S4. It's great that Spyderco has so many choices available. But it's kinda driving me crazy :)

Once again I am with The Deacon... the Chaparral is my choice... fantastic lil knife. Very lightweight, ultra slim, great slicer!

Techno!

"slices like a demon" ... that phrase alone has me checking out the Chaparral now.

That Techno has a sick XHP blade at .177" thick. And I like the blue back spacer to liven it up.

But the Chaparral (both CF and Ti) are looking like a nice discreet EDC. I was a little concerned about the thin blade. But that fear is now melting away.

And the Sage , Sage 4 and Native 5 are all still at the top of the list.

I have investigated other manufacturers but I always keep coming back to Spyderco. For the smaller knives at least :)

Have you considered the caly3? There is a superblue sprint available right now if you act quick. My discreet EDC is a Native 5 and it is built like a pocket tank. Are you looking for discreet carry, or a gentlleman's knife?

For me the line is blurred between a gentlemans knife and just a discreet carry knife. I always take the clips off so I have to keep weight as a big factor. But not at the expense of having the knife be too small and frail.

I like : Sage , Sage 4 , Native 5 , Chaparral (cf and ti) and Techno.

I wonder how the Chap would compare to a BM 707 Sequel ? I find the Sequel to be a tad too small and dantie for my taste.

IMO, the stout blade of xhp on the techno makes it perform like a much bigger Knife. XHP is just awesome in its own right, and in the same thickness as the super leaf but in a small sheeple friendly package--- AWESOME

You make a good point. And I have always been curious about XHP. I see pics of the Techno in this post with a blue titanium handle but when I search for it online all I find is the gray handle. Was that a sprint ?

Don't have to search too far. There's a reason why the Delica and Endura are so popular.

I carry Native5 for several month now. I carried C83 Persian/Caly3-3.5 combo for years and always felt that I need at least one knife with 3.5" blade. My original plans were to rotate Caly3.5 and Native5 as back-up knives for Persian. This didn't happen. Native5 kickout Caly out of the pocket. I really felt guilty for couple month looking for lonely Caly3.5 been left on the counter every day. I always liked FFG Natives: ergos and look. I carried Native4 for a while, but it did click that much. Native5 became my most used knife. It is so comfortable in my hand. Most of Spyderco knives have great ergos. I never read any complains on Calys ergos, but Native5 feels much better.
Native5 made me realize that my hand likes thicker knives. Even more Native made me realize that may be one knife will be enough for me. I love it so much, so I bought a new suite for Native. I think it looks even better now
