Tops Knives: Show ‘em if you have ‘em

I love the looks of 107C, but the sawback beats the crap out of my thumb. But otherwise it’s an amazing knife.

The "DBK" guys LOVED the batoning capability of it, but only gave it a "9.0", instead of a "9.5", for batoning. Their reasoning for that was that it beats the hell out of a baton. (*The blade that they tested was the 107C "Delta Class)

I'll be honest...If the "C" is harder than the "E" on wood sections/batons, I hadn't really noticed. 1686261774889.png

Make no mistake, the Steel Eagle 107C or it’s brethren are probably the strongest production knives available.

Also the Outpost Command is a ridiculously strong knife as well.

The Outpost Command looks like a great knife...kind of an "ESEE-5"/"BK-2" challenger.

Me? I'm holding-out for the "Redux" Steel Eagle "105" series. They debuted at "Blade Show" about two years ago, as "Prototypes", but kinda' disappeared.

TOPS has had a "105" for years. However, for me, it didn't really pay homage to the "107" knives. Apparently, Leo Espinoza (*CEO of TOPS) felt the same way, and set-out to build a 105 that was more fitting of the "Steel Eagle" series.

Anyhoo, TOPS dumped the original 105, and came-up with a 5.5" blade that is more fitting of the 107 Series. Coincidentally, I just happened to talk to the TOPS Dealer Rep, today (*"Dylan"), and he informed me that they're slated for release in about 30 days.

Apparently, they will be offering a "105C" (*Hunter's point with sawback), a "105D" (*Tanto point with sawback), a 105E (*Hunter's point with straight spine), and a Tanto with a straight spine (*I have no idea as to the nomenclature)

Man, I'm "All in"! I'll be acquiring two of each, of the "C" and "E" offerings, when they launch.

That tactical steak knife was bad ass !! Encapsulated micarta over 1/8 1095 drop point !! Beautiful little slicer

Just to let you know...

The "Lite Trekker" (*currently available), while being a completely different design, shares some similar traits of the "Tactical Steak Knife".

Just sayin'...

So, another question as I've noticed on several different 107's different grips/scales being on their handles. Which is more preferable the rocky mountain tread pattern or the standard grip, I have medium to large hand size. Also, would the acid rain or the coated brown finish be better for longevity purposes. I'm kind of looking at the acid rain type finish. Thanks,

Well, I've got a 107C Delta in route with the rocky mountain tread handles and the acid rain finish. They sure are hard to find and don't seem to pop up for sale very often. I've got this feeling I'll be wanting to check out a 107E as well. Thanks folks,

I have used both types of scales, and give a slight preference towards the rocky mountain tread. That being said, I like the standard scales but add my own texturing/grooves per my previous post in this thread.

Regarding the finish, the acid wash was the old finish that Tops used on their Delta Class series. It has since been replaced with Midnight Bronze ("coated brown"). Both finishes are the same in terms of durability, and are much better than the thick "bed liner" epoxy coating used on their standard knives.

Enjoy your new knife. And yes, you will indeed need a 107E as well. :)

Brother, I am SO sorry.

I saw the question you posted for me, but have been busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kickin' contest...and never got around to answering you. Mea culpa.

I have to agree with Shane, but will add...

Honestly, I also don't think your "C" Delta will come in "Acid Rain". Those haven't been available in a bit. (*unless you managed to score some hidden New/Old/Stock) I believe they've switched to Bronze Cerakote...which will be much better than the "Acid Rain", in my very humble opinion. (*I've never been a fan of the acid finish)

And, I'll just quote Shane so that you're straight on your needs... (*He's ABSOLUTELY correct)

I own only one TOPS knife, but I thoroughly enjoy browsing their line-up. Such a spectrum of designs; ranging from wacky to quite practical. I like the goofy names, too. It's entertaining and fun to go through the TOPS catalogue--I feel the same way about 'shop-looking' classic Cold Steel and Spyderco.:thumbsup:

My one-and-only TOPS knife is the Frog Market Special. I bought it thinking it would make for a great BBQ grill prep knife: thin 1/4" stock, fine pokey tip, wicked belly. To be honest, I vastly prefer stainless steel for kitchen/food prep duty, and have only used the FMS a few times just for the novelty, but it performed admirably. Pulled it out a few days ago (after it had sat neglected for a long time) and found a bit of surface rust on the blade--mea culpa for not cleaning and drying it properly before storage... still, no regerts! :D
