First question: Its a tie between the CUB and the Prather.TOPS knives: your favorite knife and most ridiculous model name
I only have a tops baja 4.5, but would love to get an airwolfe, nd the tahoma field knife, also the tex creek xlTwo questions about TOPS knives. 1. What is your favorite TOPS knife? 2. And what is the most ridiculous TOPS model name you've seen?
I know TOPS doesn't get any love on this forum. Most here seem to think they're sharpened pry bars. And some of their models indeed are, but maybe that's what some of us here want.Anyway, my favorite TOPS knives are the Condor Alert and the Mountain Lion. (They tied for first place. I can't decide which I like more.) Condor Alert, sadly, is out of production. Sometimes they bring back old models though. Great survival/camp knife, with good size. Mountain Lion, another great survival/camp knife, but much smaller sized.
As for the most ridiculous name on one of their knives, I just saw one named "HOG". It ain't what you think though, not a pig sticker. HOG stands for "hunter of gunmen". I kid you not. Hunter of Gunmen, seriously? Almost makes me want one because of the ridiculous name, which is laser printed on the knife. The novelty of it I guess.![]()
I have a bk7 that I reprofiled and wilson wrapped the handle. Works well.I like a lot of Tops models, but I got all the 1095 I’ll ever use with Ethan Becker’s signature handle.
You should get the tops brakimoI love my black rhino, holds an edge, kydex sheath, great heavy duty outdoors knife. I'm getting the screaming eagle (not the hp version) soon and would like someone's opinion on it. I am twelve and love knives. I only collect the good stuff. Not the cheap flimsy crap.
What about the B.O.B knives, I prefer quarter inch, but I like the designYou should get the tops brakimo
My tops baja 4.5 has a 5/32 thick blade and it's just right, and still tough. The bob is good, but the brakimo will cut circles around it. 1/4 inch kills performance in that size range. It's just not necessary to be that thick to have a wicked tough knife. The bk 9 is a perfect example.
I understand quarter inch in that size range. Thanks for the advice. I like bigger knives personally. I started out with throwing tomahawks from crkt, so I am acustomed to large blades for chopping. The bob is good, but the brakimo will cut circles around it. 1/4 inch kills performance in that size range. I also was thinking about the esee 5, I liked the sheath, and the linen micarta handle scales. I like the 1095 steel also.I understand quarter inch in that size range. Thanks for the advice. You might try the esee 6hm it would be better than the 5 at many things and more eegonomic as wellI also was thinking about the esee 5, I liked the sheath, and the linen micarta handle scales. I like the 1095 steel also.
Thanks for the advice. Very helpful to me because I am fairly new to knives and still have a lot to learnYou might try the esee 6hm it would be better than the 5 at many things and more eegonomic as well
