Who owns one of these and any comments about tops in general as a company?

i know there ads are a bit out there but i dont particurarily care.

I like TOPS, generally, but the MX4 Punisher is a ridiculous knife. The handle looks thick, sharp, and uncomfortable; the extended tang is too large, the blade shape is too square to truly offer a good slicing belly, and the sawteeth and false-false edge look like they were tacked on just to make the knife look mean.

This is the licensed knife from the movie Punisher: War Zone, and it exhibits all of the qualities that the movie does -- it's ugly, it's nasty looking, and it doesn't quite work. Ray Stevenson, the actor who played Frank Castle in this sequel, is a better actor than this. He deserved a better script -- and knife users deserve a better knife.

TOPS makes a very high-quality product, but you have to sift through an awful lot of "tactical paperweights" to find the models that are really worth it. I'm a HUGE fan of my TOPS Shango, and carry it nearly every day--but you wouldn't see me touching THAT fugly thing with a 10 foot pole! :D

It's a movie knife, can't hold TOPS to blame for it but so much.

If you paid me $X to make a questionable movie knife I may also do the same. Again, it's more of a prop than a knife.

I don't think anyone here has held TOPS responsible for it. The person who holds complete responsibility for this knife is Dan Certo, who is very, very convinced of how Incredibly Tactical this knife is:

Very well said, about the movie and the knife. 3 Punisher movies and they all (( not appropriate ))!

I thought the Thomas Jayne version was actually quite good.
It had a few good elements, I suppose, but overall it really didn't do it for me. And Jane just isn't Punisher-like enough for me. Stevenson at least had the gruff look.

Well, the normal version is around 300 I believe it said, and the "Relentless" version is 1800.

I think I am in the right place. I know Certo has his fans in a certain other forum, but yes, that knife is ugly, worthless for any real use and the movie was a dog.

Do youself a favor if you like TOPS look at the Armageddon or my favorite the ANaconda both are extremely well built, well thought out knives. I have kept the 7.5" Tanto Anaconda while selling off all kinds of cult followed knives, it just plain works.

I thought Warzone had some pretty rad action scenes, sort of like the action movies of yesteryear. Not like the castrated PC PG-13 "action" movies we have today.

Mindless, gory action for its own sake does not make a good movie. The biggest problem with that film is that its script is incredibly uneven and badly paced. It has a final action sequence tacked on almost as an afterthought, for example -- because the plot itself peters out about two-thirds of the way through the film. The dialog is stilted, the characters overwrought, and Castle himself is morally ambiguous in a way that The Punisher should never be. Overall it's an awful movie.

Yeah, no not to turn this into a movie discussion thread, but what I've always loved about Punisher comics is the inner narration of his "war journal" that gives you a peek into his mind, his dead heart. You can't help but feel some sympathy for him for his great loss and unending pain. The movies just treat him like another all guns blazing action 'hero.' Not as the tragic yet compelling and exciting character he is in the hands of good writers.

Well i guess now is when i stand at ends with the general populace of BF. I for one am a big Punisher fan. But i am only a FAN of the ennis written Punisher series under the MAX label.

Also i looked at some other reviews of this knife and im about 90% sure im going to purchase this and bring it with me to afghanistan. Ive been acquiring a few blades lately as i deploy in two months and i want a few different knives with me. Interestingly enough the tom brown tracker knife is quite popular at my unit so i decided to buy a tops but a different model and this one appealedf to me for a multitude of reasons it would be the largest knife i have ever owned mainly. also i can see the uses of the design for general utility and abuse. i can see why it doesnt appeal to some people and i can respect that. but i dont dismiss this to the realm of gil hibbens fantasy blades. i expected when i posed this question that alot of people would respond negativley but no one seems to have owned this knife so they cant make a first hand judgement on it. if for no other reason than to be able to post a full review on bf of a knife of this kind ill purchase a tops punisher and use the hell out of it. if i buy one i promise to use it for whatever i can and post the results for bf. i know its not going to be a good slicer but dont really care about that in a knife id put on my web gear ive got a multitool for clean cuts.

Don't ask questions to which you don't want the answers.
