TOPS M4X Punisher

Uh... okay. I don't think our interpretations of either the character or the film are very similar at all. I think we can, agree, however, on something less subjective, and that is that, as a knife, this Punisher blade is not very functional. It sacrifices that functionality in the name of looking like a movie knife.

And i think we can agree to disagree. I dont believe in yawara pocket sticks i think they are pretty much a joke but i dont go to prac -tac and bash on them because ive never owned one.

Mindless, gory action for its own sake does not make a good movie. The biggest problem with that film is that its script is incredibly uneven and badly paced. It has a final action sequence tacked on almost as an afterthought, for example -- because the plot itself peters out about two-thirds of the way through the film. The dialog is stilted, the characters overwrought, and Castle himself is morally ambiguous in a way that The Punisher should never be. Overall it's an awful movie.

ON THE CONTRARY! Mindless, gory action, like beautiful naked women making out, makes EVERY movie better.

We call it "artistic merit."

But to address the topic at hand... I wouldn't take the M4X Punisher if it was free. It's one of the most horrible knife designs I've ever seen.

wow this is an old thread, I still havent picked one up because i couldnt find one at the right price which really sucks because i really want one :(

It would look awesome on the side of my eberlestock and it would be an excellent tool for the impromptu construction/destruction we do here, also i think it would give the afghanis a coniption fit, they are weird about blades. That blade would do really well over here.

I was looking into relentless knives when I was getting into hight performance knives. I stumbled on his site almost randomly. It was before punisher movie, and to be honest I do like some of his designs. What put me off were the handles, the ones I liked, straight without finger groves, were on knives that were to expensive for me. And I used to break all my knives with time, I did (and sometime still do) use my knives like shovels and pry bars. I started doing some research and started to consider other makers as well like strider and MercWorx. Well that made more confused and I joined bladeforums to ask for help. I ended up buying a Busse (it was actually cheaper and I really liked their warranty) but I still like some of relentless designs like m4 ranger, m1 map, m9 fighter generally the ones with straight handle, not really keen on the punisher knife though. I might pick up his necker or a small blade in the future.

Still am wondering what kind of warranty he offers.

I dont know why but somehting about the punisher knife speaks to me. I really like the design. Its odd because usually i dont like big knives, My biggest knife is a busse hell razor.

It just looks likea great design for rough use

I am about to take the plunge on 2 big blades from Dan. He has been great to work with, explains the good and bad of choices you can make. Ive been reading feedback from others and it is all great. On his page he states that he warrants the tools for life against anything other than purposeful destruction. If its something you could use it for in a true tool / life saving condition and it breaks I bet he will stand behind it.

I am doing an M4 extended to 8 inches and a M1A at 10 inches, both with some custom configuration on the blades and handles. I also chose to have them hand forged, triple heat treated and done in s30v. I expect they will last my lifetime and be handed down. they will see almost daily use for years to come.

Send him an email and ask about your handle concerns. He will tell you what others have done and what works. I would suspect that there is a purpose behind the design, but he will probably make it however you ask for it.

I just got a neck knife from him, that I am very pleased with, FF is good, good handle geometry, blade came razor sharp, mailed it right out, RELENTLESS M2 COMPANION

While we're OT...who watches action movies for acting? Seriously. I don't know of anyone that watches movies like Rambo, Rocky, the aforementioned Punisher, etc for acting. If you're going to watch The Expendables, will you watch it for the acting too?

Back OT, if you're set on getting that knife go for it. I'm sure you can find some use for it in the sandbox. Tops heat treat is done by the same people that do heat treating for ESEE (formerly RAT), so that's always a good sign.

umm action movies can be done a little better, the Bourne series for one, payback with Mel Gibson, 100's of movies with good acting and action,

I don't know about you guys, but I still like the knife from the first punisher movie. (granted using Dolph Ludgren was kind of a bad idea, he just didn't fit)

I'll weigh in on this. I own several Dan Certo/ Relentless Knives and can attest to their rugged construction. Yes, the M4X Punisher is a movie knife, but I do own an older model that the Punisher is based on (M-4 Trailhound).
Would I carry this into combat? Perhaps, if I were a young man again and could bear the weight. It is not a "be-all-end-all" blade, but it does excell in it's perameters.

I'll take 'em. Just send them to me and I'll forward the to Noss for a thorough destruction testing. :D

Well we can all agree that the mx4 stabs people like a champ which is kind of the meaning of a knife

With the large blunt end on the front of that monstrosity I don't believe it would "stab like a champ" at all.

Look back at the picture of the knife in question on page one and please explain to me how that knife would be great at stabbing.

I love my RAT knives and i know that ROWEN heat treats both so thats what i was going off of.

Just an FYI Rowen was never involved with all the TOPs models only doing a few of them years ago. Now a days I don't think they are handling any of the TOPs models.

Thats not to say TOPs doesn't make a heck of a good blade, because they absolutely do, just mean it as an FYI since no one else mentioned it.

There are a few older posts in the ESEE subforum on the subject if you want to search for more details, or confirm for yourself.

Not a design I would pick, but I do like it other than the spine work they did, and overall handle shape/choil which looks painful without gloves. But if you like it go for it, its your money, and it will be a well built knife.

Old thread. I like the design. A "stabber" it is not. But any properly sharpened 1/4" thick hunk of steel should have no trouble making a life ending gash in human flesh. Movie knife--sure it is, but seems to me that it would excell at hacking. To those that like the design but don't want to spend that much coin---try the Ontario Knife Company "Spec-Plus" machete. It is also 1/4" thick, flat tip blade. I have beat the living snot out of mine & i love it. It shaves paper & hair, even after a day in the field, chopping. I would not think twice about trusting my life to it. It seems to me, a knife design is much like anything else. You either like it, or you don't. It is either functional for you or it is not. How many people REALLY NEED all the things we have ? We have them because we want them mostly, which is cool by me.

i guess a knife isn't a knife on this thread unless it's capabilities arn't limited to picking dirt out from under fingernails. RAZOR seems to be the only pearson on this thread to understand that a knife is a tool. no knife is perfect. but if you can't see the utility for wich this knife would excell, then you should keep your coments to things you have knowledge in. just because i don't like dainty little girly man knives doesn't mean i should beat up the wimpy snobs that do. to each his own. good luck razor! thanx for your servise!!!!!

I didn't think that it was a bad movie as a big fan of the comics. Flawed, but it didn't take itself too seriously like the last one and beside the first sequence, the action sequences were well done.

I currently only have one TOPS knife, the Hawk Recon, which a pal bought for me. Good quality knives I think, if a tad over-priced and over-hyped. Some of the designs are good and some not so. The names are generally pretty stupid, and even worse, they tend to be written on the blades. The sheaths leave a lot to be desired. On the whole, they seem to be robust, but also heavy.
