TOPS Tibo

Well that's not as bad as it could be, for sure. But still not soon enough! :D

Yeah, but I was just really impressed with how fast they got the first ones out for Blade. The knife went from a sketch of the neck knife I want to carry that I drew at a Waffle House one night while drinking coffee and writing, after a day long photo shoot, to hanging around my neck in less than two weeks. I did get to reserve my favorite numbers though :)

Cool stuff! I've appreciated that TOPS has been adding more "non-tacticool" models lately.

Yeah, they've added a few nice hunters and skinners I like. I have an Idaho Hunter with a FFG that is going to get a workout this autumn :) Plus I was checking out a couple of other FFGs at Blade. They are definitely expanding their line to other areas.

TOPS has some really cool designs(again I love the TIBO) and if some of them were a bit thinner say 1/8 instead of 3/16ths then I think and this is just me but they would sell more. I have my eye on a couple but the 3/16ths is holding me back....but it is getting harder to hold back:)

Thanks man, glad you like the Tibo :). Yeah, they do have some really cool designs, and actually TOPS does quite a few knives with steels thinner than 3/16 and I noticed even more on the table at Blade that are going to be on their website later this year. This definitely seems to be an area where they are exploring possibilities. Plus they have also started doing more high and flat grinds, and more of those to come this year. I listed the ones I ran across below.

Any word on the sheath, edge angle, and/or edge thickness?

I can't say for certain, but I expect the sheath will be similar in style to this sheath from a similar sized TOPS knife.

As for edge angle and thickness, I don't have a protractor handy, but according to my digital calipers the edge thickness is 0.037 or 6 thousandths of an inch over 1/32" at the shoulder, and the edge bevel is 0.69 or 7 thousandths of an inch over 1/16" wide. The width of the primary grind transitions from 0.129 or 4 thousandths over 1/8 at the top of the grind to the 0.037 at the shoulder in 0.82 or 7 thousandths over 3/4". It's not a full flat grind and has some meat left in the spine for lateral strength. The blade is 1 inch wide at the widest point and 2.7 inches long from tip to plunge. I hope that's more helpful than confusing...

The more I look at this knife I feel that in it came the realization of the Becker Necker + ESEE Izula in its fullness, more than the ESKABAR. I feel that the designs we're intertwined here not just bolted together and then some more! It really looks great!

Thanks man, glad you like it. In overall appearance that's mainly the influences that show. However it is the small knife I wanted as a neck knife based on the use of several small knives over the course of several years. The blade shape was heavily influenced by the Izula, but I wanted more of a point for better penetration and for boring small holes, and I wanted a continuous curve edge profile. The first finger notch was influenced by the BK-11 and a couple of others, but I wanted something light for a neck knife so it is done in 1/8+ steel.

I hope this comes out in pink/orange/yellow so i can buy one for the boss too :D I really like this one and fortunately, its in the size that I can purchase here in the philippines. looking forward to this!

Thanks man, glad you like it. I have no idea what colors it may come in later. I know TOPS does black, grey, and yellow on a regular basis but who knows.

I totally agree! Hell--don't even bother with stonewashing it. I bet you leaving it with all the scuff marks would actually look pretty cool. :D

That would make a nice edc. Nice design.
Is the choil the way you designed it or that's tops interpretation of it?
On a blade this size I would rather see the smallest possible choil.

Eh, I don't think they'd let it out without stone washing it lol. Plus I like the looks of their stonewashed stainless :)

i really really need/want this knife

Thanks man, glad you like it.

Thanks man. Actually the sharpening choil just comes out to meet the grind because I wanted a radiused grind...I think it is stronger than a straight in plunge. BUT the idea is for it to serve as a striking area for a ferro rod for me once I clean the coating off the edge and square it up. I wanted it to work with a 1/4 inch rod.
