I am writing this after I have just hanged up with Chuck Bybee the person behind the auction for “Support Raymond Richard”.

Having tried to participate in the aforementioned auction I sent an e-mail to Chuck Bybee on September 21, 2005 following exactly the instructions that appear on http://www.knifemakersupport.com/ . Since I hadn’t received any reply until yesterday I called up at about 09:00 (Chuck Bybee’s local time) and I left a message on the answering machine. Still no reply though.

Today, I decided to give it a second chance and called up again at about 09:20. A woman who did not identify her self picked up the phone and when I heard that I was calling from abroad she said that I couldn’t participate in the auction because I was calling from abroad and there have been problems with identification. To my question about the exact nature of the problems, she did not know what to say other than repeating herself.

Since I wanted to know exactly, where the problem was she passed me on to Chuck Bybee who said that the problem has been that they cannot track the item whether it was delivered or not. I told him that with USPS you can but he did not comment on that. I have received quite a few knives from the U.S. plus I used to live in Southern California and I know this is a cheap excuse since with USPS you can DEFINITELY truck it! He also said that they would only accept wiring of the money, which will cost $40.00. Of course, only Chuck Bybee can tell us how come and he knows in advance what my bank charges for wiring money since it also depends on the amount that you wire!

Further to that, I would like to invite anyone who reads this to visit this link http://www.knifemakersupport.com/ and read underneath the photos where it says “Bidding Information” the following:

If you want to bid, call me at 425-246-7215. If I don't answer leave a message and I will call you back. If you want a bidder number be ready to provide the following information:
• First and Last Name
• Street Address
• City
• State (if applicable)
• Zip Code (if applicable)
• Country (other than USA)
• Daytime Phone Number
• Evening Phone Number
• Time Zone
• Phone Contact Hours
• How you will pay
• If applicable, credit card information

I will leave it up to you to judge what kind of crap this is. Maybe ebay needs some tutoring from Chuck Bybee about how to protect their business from us foreigners who want to participate in auctions in the U.S.A.!

George

im thinking this should be in the good bad and ugly forum....

i say this because it doesnt really deal with busse combat, and it appears to be a personal issue between individuals

i think he posted it here b/c there is a basic 7 on the auction list that he had posted about previously

I think the last part of his post about ebay needing some tutoring from Chuck Bybee is uncalled for although I can understand his predicament.Chuck Bybee is a good guy.Just my two cents.

I can understand your frustration. However, perhaps you should tell him that you will accept full responsiblity for shipping of these items, it might make him change his mind. These are CHARITY auctions, and I'm sure he doesn't want to go through the hassle of dealing with lost items.

While the auction this pertains may be Busse related, the events and content of this post are not.

Off to GB&U

I can't blame him for not accepting Overseas bids.It is a higher risk for getting scammed.Credit Card companies will not side with the seller and USPS will likely not wind up paying a insurance claim for an overseas loss of package.International transactions just aren't worth the effort.

I understand the frustration but for what its worth Chuck Bybee is a standup guy in my book and overseas shipping is a pain in the butt.

I understand your frustration sir...I have often encountered it when trying to buy OUTSIDE of the US as well, BUT frankly it Dosen't get much better than the Bybee's IMHO.

Loandr.

News flash..
Tracking numbers on USPS only work when in our borders. You cannot track pa package internationally via USPS...this is different with UPS or Fed Ex

anyway..I second the nomination for Chuck as a stand up guy...who Sorry pal. but this is useless.

I have purchased many items from the US without a problem.
I do however always ask the question - Do you ship to Australia?
If the seller is not prepared to do so, I totaly accept their decision - it is the sellers right to refuse a sale on whatever grounds they see fit. Move on.

A good guy doing a good thing for a guy who had his shop burn down doesn't deserve "that" amount of acrid pungent attack. Period.

Check yourself...

George

Παρουσιάζετε φτωχούς τρόπους. Αυτό είναι μια δημοπρασία φιλανθρωπίας, όχι για τη συναλλαγή κέρδους. Είμαι ντροπιασμένος της συμπεριφοράς σας

You have a lot to learn, George.

ren,

i live in europe and i always ask the seller from the usa to ship the knife by usps. depending on the kind of shipping and insurance i choose (e.g. international express) i get a tracking number and i am then able to check the status of the shipping.

Thank you to all the people who expressed your support.

Here is what is happened from my point of view.

I was away from the table and Jessica had the phone and was writing down auction bids as they were called in. When I returned to the table Jessica was on the phone. I heard her identify herself at least twice while
I was there. At one point she covered the phone and said to me "Some guy is threatening to write bad things about me on BladeForums because I will not accept his bid". I took the phone from her.

I promptly identified myself and and asked how I could help. George explained who he was and that he was from Greece. I told him due to recent problems with credit card fraud, bids from outside US and Canada to be paid by credit card could not be accepted. I had to repeat myself over and over because George kept interrupting me (Jessica said the same thing after I got off the phone). I said the only bids we would accept would be payable via wire transfer and the average fee was about forty dollars based on the average bid. I told him the primary problem was there was no was to prove to the credit card company the item had been delivered if there was a dispute. Again I had to repeat myself over and over because George kept interrupting me. George said he buys knives from US companies and has never had a problem. I told him other companies decision to risk credit card disputes was irrelevant. We would not accept the risk of asking Ray to return money months after the auction was over. George never did say what he wanted to bid on and he did not have the cajones to threaten me.

George, I told you on the phone, I am ONE of the organizers. There are lots of people involved. Based on your behavior I sure every other person involved in organizing this CHARITY AUCTION would exclude you also. This is something we are doing to help someone in need. Ray is not a customer of AKS. He is a great person who people want to help. For that reason I volunteered to help. You need to get out and do some charity work. Giving to other people might help you get over being so demanding. I also need to learn how to listen and not interrupt other people when they are speaking.

I do know a little about shipping packages. We ship 10-15 packages a day. 99% of the packages are shipped via USPS. We ship to lots of customers all over the world. The problem of tracking packages outside the US is known to all companies who ship outside the US. If George has a solution to the problem I and lots of businesses would love the hear his solution to the package tracking problem outside the US.

George, you made good on your threat to my eighteen year old daughter to write bad things about us. If you stand back and look at the entire picture you will probably find you made yourself look really bad.

Good on you,Chuck! And as Steven posted,George,ya' have a lot to learn. An apology to Chuck and Jessica would be a good start.I'll leave it at that. Please Email me if you're P.O.ed! ;) :D

Wow, I must be living under a rock, because I hadn't heard anything about this auction or the loss of Raymond Richard's shop. If nothing else, this thread probably gained it a little more publicity. Kudos to the donors!

You will have a hard time finding anyone who has a bad thing to say about the Bybee's. Chuck is a lot more polite and gracious about this than most people would be.

George, you are making yourself look like a real horse's ass.
