Tough jacket?

its hard for anything to beat carhartt in terms of toughness

After looking at a LOT of jackets, the Carhartt Waterproof Breathable jacket is my choice. Now I just have to save my pennies to afford one! They run $110 or so.

It comes in coat and jacket lengths, typical Carhartt boiler-plate construction, good pockets and hood, etc.

I did find a Timberland jacket that is on the light side, but much like an M-65, without a lining and cotton/nylon blend-- pretty much like the old 60/40 parkas used for hiking before Gore-Tex came along. I got one at Burlington Coat Factory for $50. It is what I wanted for an everyday street coat.

Speaking of military jackets. Do vets object to people who were never in the service , wearing military gear?

Providing the patches have been removed it doesn't bother me. If you have patches on it implies service which if you didn't do is like advertising a lie. While I notice that people that have never been in the service really don't seem to care one way or another, or even notice in many cases. I think it really pisses off vets because we can pretty much read what the patches say and of course to us they have meaning. It took us years of service to be able to wear them. Some of those patches cost others a lot more than just time in service.

I fully agree. I know what I had to do to earn the right to wear my cav sabers. I see people wearing old field jackets w/ unit patces, airborne wings, ranger tabs etc... If you earn them thats great, if not it dulls there meaning. The flag is an exception. Every American has the right to display that, as long as it is right side up and displayed correctly. I saw a kid w/ it sewn on upside down and I almost ripped it off his shoulder.

I fully agree and "Scouts out" I was a 11D20 back when that was a "Armor Reconnaissance Specialist" even though everyone still called us scouts. The army later re-designated it in 1979 as 19D20 Cavalry scout. I was a sargent in charge of a scout squad in 1st Bn 6th infantry. I use to do a fair amount of border duty on the Czech border back when the Russians were our enemies as well as other scout duties.

And you are correct. If you aint Cav, you aint.....

"I guess it goes without saying that any insignia should be removed."

Yep.

Military jackets?? Sure. Why not? But no patches or badges unless they are listed on your DD214.

I would have held him down for you. I agree with the others, no patches, other than that, no problem. I took my patches off when I got out.

check out tripple aught design. Kinda pricy but they have some nice coats and gear. I have one of their ranger hoodies and love it. Wish their titanium dog tags would come back in stock, but thats another story....

Another vote for TAD. I just got a Ranger hoodie last week and love it. I'll be picking up more of their clothing line now.
