Ok this is a tough one. Whats everyones opinion of whats the VERY BEST folder for 200$ or under. Best I mean TOUGHEST workhorse kind of tough. A folder for SD and general HARD work to be carried EDC. Para military?Manix? Emerson cqc-7? Stratofighter? Anything? Just TOUGH

eeeh well it aint the stratowanker atleast. id say the emerson, emersons is the shit. microtechs are nice too

Ontario 'Randall's adventure training' folder model 1
Great review in Tactical Knives last May.
And....best buy for the money also.

Since I haven't tested any of the sub-$200 folders to failure... or any folder to failure, I can only guess.

But I would guess the Manix. It is a pretty much perfect example of a pure workhorse folder.

my farid folder is built like a tank, infact i think that if i was strong enough i could probably stab a tank with it!

I don't know diddly about self-defense techniques, so I can only comment on utility uses. The toughest tactical utility folders that I know of, in that price range, would probably be the Spyderco Manix and Benchmade 710. Both of these knives have their strong points and weak points, but Bladeforums should have a wealth of information on both knives, via the search engine.

Sere 2k from Al Mar and Microtech Socom. Just my opinion today. Will change by tomorrow.

Two came to mind immediately and both are Buck knives. First I'd pick the Mini Buck Strider 881 because of its stout little giant stature, short strong super thick sharpened pry bar of a blade (we are talking 4.5mm thick here) and a pretty stout body and overall lockup as well. Shouldn't matter what blade you go with. I prefer the spear in a combo edge but the tanto is equal in toughness if not more so due to the tip diff. They make plain or combo and both styles so its up to the user. Their 880 is a pretty good knife but I don't think its as tough as its mini counterpart.

Second I'd go with what I consider to be one of the knives that started it all. The Buck 110 folder. For the money its hard to beat and I've seen and experienced just how tough these things are. In many ways they still out perform many knives 5 times the price.

I've got a Skirmish and Manix. Both seem to be equally stout. They do feel very different. Is there a brick and mortar where you can try them out and purchase?

Don't forget the CRKT M1-13. Nearly unbreakable tip - it has none, Ti coated which shrugs off abrasion, thick scales. Great price, and a better liner lock than the Buck 887 in my experience.

CS RECON I PLAIN TANTO It is about as beefy as a folder should get (i think the blade could be slimmed down a bit especially if a better SS is used). I think the Ultra Lock is the strongest in the industry but you really gotta file the lock pin down to make it spin (like the original) so it wont jam on you (it jammed on me and now i got a 1/2" scar on the palm of my hand!).

I would say my manix also as mny people have said here. Also my Rukus seems to be able to fit the bit quite well also.

What about the Ontario Retribution folders?

I haven't actaully tried or even held one, but based just on the picks those things are monsters.
