I'm just looking for some ideas. I'd like to buy a strong/tough folding knife, to bear the brunt of my abuses and save my nice knives. I don't want to spend over $100 and, for legal reasons, I want the blade to be under 4" long.

I don't like liner locks and I don't think hollow ground blades are the strongest edge profile, for reference. So, what do you think??

Anything from cold steel that has the triad lock. Strongest lock I've seen. There are plenty of videos of people abusing the crap out of them on YouTube. I like the american lawman. It does have a hollow grind but the blade is 3.5mm thick so its strong enough for anything you would do with a folder.

s30v powder blade ZT
kersaw 3.5" miltary police grade knife $111 shop it on ebay get it for $100

it is tatical blade so it made for destruction grind is unimportant since your price is first, size is next and tough is next. you have too comprimise somewhere or be having a $500 custom made blade! not sure of the grind but i am sure it is hollow or semi flat

Came on this forum a couple months ago asking a similar question, and waas directed towards the cold steel voyager. Love the knife, and it's tough as nails. The med. clip is 3 inches, the large is 4.

cold steel is aus-8 vs s30v

but it half the price and tanto is tough but the edge is not compared too ZT - cold steel is nice under $50 knife

Get an Opinel #8 and see if you break it in daily use.

Spyderco ZDP-189 Stretch. Shop around and you'll find it under $100. Well designed build, super steel, FFG, lightweight, and a back lock. What more could you ask for?

LMAO

i had look up that knife and you can get 12 toss one each month! lol!

or

get 2 dozen smith and weesons and throw one away each week, on feebay!
still lmao opy 8 that is funny

I keep going back to the Cold Steel Voyager, but I'm wondering what else is out there too. The new Cold Steel Code-4 looks promising, but I it looks like it will have a hollow grind. The 3.5" blade is preferable for me to the 4" in the Large Voyager though.

Benchmade Griptilian 551... 3.5" blade. Axis lock. Good steel (154CM). High flat grind. Fairly thick blade stock (3mm, 0.12"). Under $100.

Here it is taking a beating in the Benchmade test lab (video made by Benchmade):

Here's what it takes to break the handles:

I would think the Rat 1 would be a good tough folder and can buy 3 within budget. Or the BM Grip as suggested above. Takes a beating.

The Cold Steel Clip Point Voyager is flat ground rather than hollow. I would say that's probably your best bet.

a griptilian, a mini recon, and if you are using it like a knife a delica will stay with a lot longer than you expect, hell, if you treat knives like knives get a sodbuster, best slicer i ever owned and tough as nails

I suggest a Svord Peasant (wood handle, my choice) : ugly and too expensive for what it is, but eventually, with some work on it, one of the best EDCs I ever had. Very sharp, good edge holding, feather light, a little cumbersome in the pocket but no worries about abusing it. Use, abuse and re-abuse : easy to mend anyway and if you break it, you won't cry. Blade a little small for my taste but almost UK legal.
