Trackrock Fall Hammer-in

You are more than welcome to come watch. you have to be careful though. Crex has a way of making people end up with a hammer in their hand and a knife to take home.

Jerry Hossom and Mike Wilson will both be there on Saturday. Karla Van Horne of the International Federation Of Leathercraft Guilds will come on Saturday also. This lady is one of the finest leather crafts person I have ever seen. She makes superb sheaths and is a joy to be around!----

I plan to be there, but the only reason eat some of that fine stew I heard Lady Gouge made :)
Is Sunday pretty much dead or will you guys still be there? We are staying over till Monday.

Hey Y'all,

Mark Nelson, it is highly recommended that you come and not only watch but also participate:)

I will be at campsite #21 on friday evening sometime. Can't wait to see y'all again and all the guys and gals I haven't met yet too!!!

I got some sheath work for you to inspect(and possibly ridicule)Sandy. I'm hoping to pick your brain on a few things leather related :)I've been doing a good bit of leather work lately.

Been trying to get back into the swing of knifemaking again too. I had a wierd mental block for about the last month and a half where I couldn't do any knifemaking at all. I'm out of it now thank God, but that really sucked :( I think maybe getting ready for this hammer-in has actually helped kick-start me back up, so thanks for the help y'all!

Chuck

Kit,

I can hang around through Sunday. Hopefully others can also. I plan on arriving sometime (late morning / early afternoon) Friday.

Gouge>> If I had realized others were getting there as early as Wed., I would have made arrangements to leave sooner.

I can't wait!!!!!!!

Pam:D

Thanks hillbillychuck I do plan on coming. As far as participating goes...well, I would like to but I haven't hammered anything but some nails so I think that I would slow someone down a bit.:) I went and read the past post on the Trackrock Fall Hammer-in sounds like alot of fun. It will be nice just to meet a few folks. hope to see you all there.

Mark,
If you can hit a nail, you can make a knife. It's more a control and focus thing than brute force. Don't be shy, we don't make judgements at Trackrock we just have fun and share. Bring safety glasses if you have them (everybody).
Look forward to meeting you. Gouge is right, sort of, I like to see anyone interested give it a go. There will be enough hammers, anvils and fire and the amount of room will surprise you.
If the Campground gets "booked out" tell them why you're coming. They offered to let us double up on sites last time and probably will again. They are very accomodating. (The manager, Frank Alexander, is "one of us" now, Gouge and I got him hooked pretty deep!)

Glad Your back home TS. Not quantity but quality fish Huh?

I'm getting excited.....Whhoo HHHoooo!!!

Sure am looking forward to seeing familiar, and hopefully soon to be familiar faces. Sounds like were going to have a nice size group.

What are the trees doing down there as far as color change?

Mark

Mark,
Do we need to bring anything? Will there be a grinder available?
Group stuff, not personal stuff.

Kit, I'm bring my Bader. Anyone is welcome to use it , just bring some extra belts. Good fellowship, beautiful mountains, cool temps, hot steal: it doesn't get any better............jc

CT - Lots of color in my neighborhood so the mountains ought to be in full swing right now. This rain hitting us right now will probably have some effect in accelerating the fall (leaves). Yeah, caught some real nice fish, but the freezer fillers just weren't on the bite. And it was to blame windy to use the flyrod much at all.
Pam - I was under the impression it meant "sieze the iron" but I haven't had any Latin since highschool (a few days back), but steel away!
Note - don't let Hillbilly fool ya, he's been busy deer hunting!

Guess I'd better get back to sorting, packing and culling.

I need a geared motor, one that runs nice and slow. Wanna make a lap sander with it. If anyone has an extra they can part with bring it to Trackrock and we'll do some dealin!

Hey Chuck,

I had the same mental block going on with knives. My biggest problem is when I'm about to the point to where it is finished,I can already see it finished in my head. When its done in my brain, I am done with it, even though its not physically done.

So I switched to tomahawks:D There is so much stuff you can do to a hawk that they are never finished in my head so I keep interest in them.

What Ya got Michael? I just so happen to have a 2hp leeson motor attached to a gear reducer. I'm not sure or the ratio but the output shaft is rated at 20 hp. I am planning on making a rolling mill with it but I might be persuaded :D

Mark

2 hp, wow Mark! I don't really need one that powerful. I just want to rig a nice slow moving horizontal disc sander for deburring and such. I was figuring on buying it outright more than trading. Don't really have anything to trade. If you hunt, I have a nice old H&R Topper 12 gauge, thats about all I can think of right now. :) I'll be in the shop all day tomorrow, I'll look around.
