I don't see how trading is riskier than selling. Selling with PPFF, if the seller does not even ship the knife, the buyer can do nothing (unprotected). Selling with PPGS, the buyer can claim the seller sold him a box of rocks. With trading, either party can claim receiving rocks from the other party.

My point is: trading and buying/selling privately is largely an act of honor and nothing is risk-free if someone decides to scam.

I rely on people's BF feedback scores as well as their participation in discussions.

I’ve probably traded a couple of dozen times over the years with people on here. Most of them I didn’t know but they all had a little time here. It was fun and part of the forums experience. I got burned once by someone who cheated a few people on their way out. Easy come easy go.
Another was really slow to ship because he claimed he had to buy cigarettes. lol Frustrating but he did finally come through.
Over all my trading experiences have been positive here but I won’t trade with someone I don’t know anymore. Way too many liars and scammers actively seeking something for nothing these days. Bladeforums is in my opinion still a very cool place however it has a different feel these days.

Most of the deals I have done here were trades , that's before folks ruined it by selling there not the same anymore .

I look occasionally; but the widespread attitude that their stuff is better than my stuff is a big turn off. (You know the ones - they'll add $150 to their posted sale price to establish trade value, then knock the value of what I'm offering to create a wider difference that they expect me to somehow cover).

I've only did one trade here so far. That was when I was a new member.
I traded a fairly expensive Siegle to someone.

before I became officially a member, I lurked for a number of years just reading up on everything. So I knew a good bunch of you people before you got a chance to meet me. I felt comfortable with the person who I was trading with, but they didn't because I was "new".
They had me ship my knife to them First..... Let me tell you that made me a bit nervous. I naturally have trust issues, but I also know I can read people and situations pretty well. All worked out, we both got our knives...... but, today that would probably cause me to think more closely.

I've done a few other delicate transactions here, but again with good people who haven't tried to screw me.
It would be nice if this community could be safe enough for all of us to "leave out doors open at night" without fear of being robbed.
Vetting is important.

I love trading. It’s fun and kind of a lost art to modern western culture. Although trading online is riskier than in person. Most people have “things” these days… while money is tight. I’ve never had a bad trade.

It doesn’t help when people want to trade a Bugout or standard Ultratech for a Sebenza. And everyone thinks a pocket clip or back spacer adds $100 of value and won’t separate them. I just don’t waste my time there. It rarely is worth my time.

Take aways are only deal with well established members and be realistic with your trade expectations. Pretty much what I adhere to. I can understand why it turns some people off though.

I’ve done many trades here and luckily, I haven’t been burned. My stipulations are that if you have less feedback than me, you have to ship first. When I receive my part of the trade and am satisfied, only then will I ship my part of the trade. This will usually weed out the scammers. Of course with people I know, I’ve mailed out knives before even receiving payment. It’s all about who you know and trust.
