Traditional and Modern pairings

I love traditinals, and they certainly get the job done and done well. But i also carry a one hander, i was wondering if any of yall do the same and if you do, what you carry? I love the Endura and Med stockman combo, but i love my peanut and endura too.
Since you carry both types, which do find yourself reaching for the most?

These are with me today .

Here is an interesting match up. My SOG Seal Pup from my army days, and my grandfather's Western leather stacked handle carbon steel fixed blade from his army days in WWII. Oh if these knives could talk...I'm sure they would have stories to tell. I honestly would like to know more about the Western if anyone has any info.

Well, for the longest time I've only been carrying traditionals. After a short romp with my SAK Alox Farmer I'd even gone back to the Case Mini-Trapper I'd been carrying for the last year and in long stretches before that. Recently though I'd picked up the Colt carbon steel trapper to check it out and liked it as a cutter.

Then I saw that Colt had a modern in D2. Really? The price was under $20 delivered and I just had to see what the heck was going on. I got it in this past Monday and after testing the factory edge (okay) I went ahead and put my own edge on it out to a .1 micron stropping. The knife has proven to be a real slicer and the steel seems done right. To top that off this is the first modern, or any knife I've been able to tuck in my rear pocket and carry without it pressing on nerves in my bony butt and causing me problems. And I don't like front pocket clipped carry at all.

I've also started playing with the idea of a fixed blade for EDC pocket carry. So to see how the general size carried I tossed a Schrade SCHF5N in my front pocket. The SAK Farmer has been riding in a small pouch on my belt. I was out back with the dog and also doing some test cutting and this matchup seems very well destined to become the always on me trinity.

Really surprised me as I left moderns behind many years back. But I like this combo very well. I just wish the SAK maybe had some bone scales on it now. ;)

(The spot on the Farmer blade is the camera lens of the phone.)

How does that svord treat the palm of your hand? It looks painful.

It is the most horribly put together knife I think I've ever bought .
I actually contacted the dealer who I bought it from and complained . I didn't even receive a reply .
Now I've got that off my chest , I'll say I bought it knowing that I'd be dismantling it and pimping it up with new handle scales etc as a easy project for someone like me with limited skills and ability .
I cant actually complain to hard because for the price the blade is actually very good steel .
It has already been broken down and no longer looks like it did a few hours ago .

Hello!

Here's another pair of mine in Stag

(the tiny Bear&Son was too scared by the BigTac to show any of it's two blades... ;) )

Regards,
Alex

Nice small fixed Andi, is that a Böker Gnome?? Today I thought I'd turn things round a bit in this thread, the CASE Wharncliffe Mini Trapper in Emerald Smooth Bone is the 'modern' and the marble eggs the 'traditional' Good health to all, Will
