Hey guys, so I found this wonderful company that custom makes knives... Specifically bowies! I've been wanting a more traditional Bowie for a long time!

It's definitely going to have the brass strip on the heel of the blade.

What would have been the traditional guard? S guard made of brass? What would be the choice wood? Oak?maple?

I would love to have guard made out of silver and handle anything burl or even ironwood.

Wish I had an option for a silver guard. For the wood my options are oak maple hickory and poplar

Traditional? Like the Bowie brothers used? Well then no brass, no S guard, no clip point.

The knives the Bowies carried look like these

Now, if that is not what you are looking for, that is cool. Its just that what you are looking for is not a "traditional Bowie."

Sounds like you are looking for a "Iron Mistress" style Bowie...which is a mid 20th century invention.

I guess I was mistaken(damn history channel)

I thought the knife Jim Bowie used was a clip point with brass backing.

Edit: after some googling, Jim Bowie used an iron mistress? The one lost in the Alamo? Is that correct?

Nooope. That whole thing was made up guy a guy called Raymond W. Thorp in 1948, I believe, in his book Bowie Knife. That stuff was further perpetuated by the the 1952 movie, The Iron Mistress.

But its OK to want one of those...many do. Just historically inaccurate.

Good to know. Gonna be a heavy sob. Brass guard, brass strip, monster blade...

120 plus shipping, with ironwood handle... I'm drooling...

Doesn't look as cool as what I was wanting...

Good to know I shouldn't brag about it being just like Jim Bowie's

Well get it. You like it...get it!
Ooooh I will... The wife may use it to cut my head off... But it will be worth it... I've been searching for somewhere to get one like I had imagined all these years...

Do you happen to know the make of that top knife? The handle looks Ontario-ish

before you do anything watch this and obtain some knowledge.

Nice collection. Some bear a passing resemblance to the knives the Bowie brothers used.

Everybody was making "Bowies" at that point...nobody at the time really knew what the Bowies had actually carried.

Didn't matter. They sold like hotcakes anyway.

Well... Good to know what I want isn't a "Bowie"... I like the "frontier" or "iron mistress" a little more though...
